Life's Complications

Unforgiving emotions

Four months pass and Sapphire has awakened, with her emotions out of normality. Looking around, she gets out of the bed and realises that she's alone, in hospital with no way out. Soon, a doctor walks in.

"Hello, Miss Hawthorne. How are you getting on?" The doctor asks

"I'd be alright, if I knew why I'm here." Sapphire responds, freaking out

"You were brought in by Shadow and Amy, unconscious."

"Why did I pass out?"

"You're going through a Chaos test. Right now, you're in the third phase of which is a surprise to all of us here."

"Why is that?"

"Because most would die after the first phase. Since your energies were radiating off you, your chances of survival are much higher. How is standing coming along?"

"I'm standing alright, I don't know if I can walk though."

"Give it a go. If you can't, I'll catch you."

Sapphire quickly notices that the doctor is a black, white and ginger cat, with a ginger patch over their right eye. Sapphire soon tries walking, to stumble and fall, being caught by the doctor.

"Looks like I can't walk. Is this part of the third phase?"

"Yes, it is but this will fade, and you'll be able to walk again in about two weeks."

"Right, will I be able to use my powers?"

"Not until the final phase of the Chaos test. That's when your powers will be put through the ultimate test of strength and what they can withstand."

"What does the final phase involve?"

"It varies from different individuals, but because of the information that I've given you earlier, it's rare that an individual gets further than the first phase. One in twenty generations, to be precise."

"Okay, that's something I'd never think to hear. Does the final phase involve some sort of sacrifice?"

"Yes, that's why it varies between individuals. Nonetheless, I've been informed that your partners and friends are coming to see you. I'll escort them to you."

"Thank you, doctor."

The doctor nods as they leave in search of the group as Sapphire sits on her bed. Shadow, Amy, Sonic, Tails, Harriot, Rouge and Knuckles arrive at the hospital.

"Hello, are you here for Sapphire Hawthorne?" A doctor asks

"Hello, yes we're here for Sapphire." Sonic responds

"Alright, follow me."

The doctor soon escorts the group to Sapphire's bedside, for Sapphire to turn to them, ecstatic.

"Hey, it's great to see you all again." Sapphire greets

"Same to you, gorgeous. How're you doing?" Sonic responds, asking

"Oh, my Sonic. Everything's decent so far, I won't be able to walk for two weeks but I'll manage."

"Is this part of your test?" Amy asks

"Yes, it is. I'm currently in my third phase and can't use my powers until the final phase."

"What does that entail?" Shadow asks, sceptically

"It requires some sort of sacrifice, but that varies between individuals. So, I won't know until the time arrives."

"No matter what happens, we'll be with you all the time if you need us." Rouge responds
