Life's Complications

New Year's... developments?

It's December 31st and Sapphire is running around her home, preparing for the New Year's celebrations. Blaze arrives at Sapphire's front door and knocks.

"Come on in, the door's unlocked." Sapphire informs

"Hey, wow! What're you doing with your house?" Blaze asks

"Prepping for the New Year, not that I know if others are doing the same."

"Aren't they all here with you?"

"No, it's only Shadow, who's asleep upstairs I think."

"Could I have a look?"

"Yeah, sure. I'll be busy down here, anyway."

Blaze goes upstairs, to find Shadow in Sapphire's bedroom, seemingly confused.

"Hey, are you alright?" Blaze asks

"Keep it down! Sapphire thinks I'm asleep." Shadow says quietly

"But you aren't. What are you doing?"

"I'm tryna think of what to do with this room."

"For New Year's? This room is perfect as it is, Sapphire loves it. I think you should leave it alone and help Sapphire, she's overworking herself again."

"Since when were you in on this relationship stuff?"

"Just recently, I'm not saying why though."

"Okay, are you dating someone?"

"Yeah, but I'm not saying who."

"If you say so. I'll see you around."

Blaze then teleports home. Shadow goes downstairs and Sapphire notices.

"Oh, hey Shadow. You're awake, how did you sleep?" Sapphire asks

"I wasn't asleep." Shadow answers

"Were you trying to think of how to decorate the bedroom again?"

"Yeah, same as last time."

Sapphire puts the New Years' décor down.

"Babe, listen. You don't need to; I love what you did with it before and the bedroom doesn't need decoration. I reckon it would just hide the memories made in there."

"You do?"

"Of course, I do. The memories of my friend and father remain. I don't see why memories of you, and I should be hidden with celebratory décor."

Sapphire takes Shadow's hand and kisses his cheek.

"Now, this reception area isn't gonna decorate itself. Let's get moving!" Sapphire informs

Shadow takes a moment to admire Sapphire's honesty and gets to helping her with decorating. Two hours pass and the decorating is complete. Shadow and Sapphire sit down on the nearest couch.

"That's that done." Shadow says

"Yep, you've said it. Have you been up all night?" Sapphire agrees and asks

"Yep, you could say that."

"Why don't you sleep upstairs like planned?"

"You needed help, Blaze suggested coming down and giving that."

"Fair enough."

Sapphire soon leans on Shadow's shoulder and falls asleep. Shadow soon carries Sapphire upstairs to bed. After careful placement, Shadow sits next to the bed and falls asleep. A few hours later, Sapphire wakes up to notice Shadow asleep on the floor and decides to put him to bed. There's soon a knock at the door. Sapphire answers to find Blaze and Sonic at the door.
