Summer of 1973
Elvira shifted in her bed once more. She did not know why she had trouble sleeping tonight, she just wasn't tired.
The thought of her and Sirius' dance lessons was still fresh on her mind.
She thought about it quite a bit, and she could not place the feeling that she felt whenever they were close.
She had felt it way before, but it almost felt stronger, and Elvira did not know why.
Elvira hated it. She hated not knowing, not being able to identify what she was feeling, and she hated that she was feeling it for her best friend. Whatever the unknown emotion was.
Suddenly, Elvira heard something hit her door and she hesitantly got up and out of bed.
She made her way towards the window and opened it.
Down below, showed the exact person who had been plaguing her thoughts, Sirius Black.
"Sirius! What the bloody hell are you doing?" Elvira hissed as Sirius began climbing through her window.
"Giving you company." Sirius responded once his feet were planted on the wooden floor.
Elvira closed and locked her bedroom window before facing Sirius.
She raised and eyebrow at him.
"Well?" She inquired.
"Well what?" Sirius asked with a frown.
Elvira rolled her eyes at his obviousness.
"Well, why'd you decide to come and pay me a visit in the middle of the night?"
Sirius sighed before saying,
"I couldn't sleep."
"Neither could I." Elvira answered.
The two just stood there for a moment before Elvira shook her head.
"Come on." She said.
Sirius frowned but followed her nonetheless.
He went wide eyed when he saw Elvira motioning to lay next to her in the bed.
"Are you going to climb in or not?"
"Y-yeah." Sirius answered with a blush on his cheeks.
He took of his shoes and climbed next to her in the bed.
He was stiff at first, but he slowly began to relax.
Elvira flipped around so she and Sirius were facing each other.
Sirius brushed a strand of her brown hair behind her ear and sighed.
"Sirius." Elvira spoke softly.
"Yeah El."
"What does it feel like to be in love?"
Sirius frowned and thought about it for a bit before answering,
"Well, I like to think it's different for all people, But I think it's kinda like the ocean."
"The ocean?" Elvira asked.
"Yeah, y'know, it's... unpredictable, I suppose. From a far it looks beautiful and calming, but once you're in the water...it can still be calming and you could still have a sense of tranquility. But then also out of nowhere a wave could come. A big one. One that completely knocks you under the water. You're completely swept away and caught underneath the current. You're drowning, and it's scary. You're trying desperately to get to the top and trying to grasp for air, but you keep getting caught in a riptide. After awhile the wave passes, and instead of drowning, you're floating in the water, and you feel at peace. Although some people don't let the wave pass, and they keep trying to get back to the surface and they keep drowning over and over again."
"But what if you let the wave pass and still drown?"
"It's a possibility. You could try and let the wave pass and still drown, but that's what makes it's so scary. That's why some people decide not to go in the ocean at all. They're afraid of drowning, even though it's a possibility you could go in and won't drown. Instead you'll be filled with peace."
"But I guess in the end whether you go in the ocean or stay on shore is up to you."
Elvira smiled at his answer.
"Y'know for someone's who fourteen and never been in love, you sure know a lot about it."
Sirius smiled.
"Maybe I have been in love, maybe I do love someone and just do not realize it."
Elvira gulped, suddenly aware of how close she and Sirius were.
She didn't know why, but she felt this sense of desire to have his lips on hers. She also felt that odd, strange feeling in her stomach again, and she still couldn't place what emotion she was feeling.
But what she did know, was how desperately she wanted to kiss Sirius, her best friend, and so she slowly leaned forward.
Their lips were barely touching, but then Sirius closed the space and it was happening.
Elvira Auclair was kissing her best friend, and vice versa.
A thousand thoughts seemed to flooding through Elvira's mind, but as they pulled apart there was only one.
Oh. She thought with a sigh.
She licked her lips and whispered,
"Goodnight Sirius."
Sirius didn't respond for a moment, but when he did, he whispered back,
"Goodnight El."
