Adria POV
It is already the day of the engagement party. Me, Sapphira and Kira were in the master's bedroom getting ready. The party will be held at a small restaurant that Sapphira owns. Vermont and Louis were already there because Sapphira, wanting to keep Vermont on his toes, wanted to arrive, and let me quote, "Fashionably late".
The dress code was casual yet elegant. Only chosen few are invited to the engagement party because this should be an intimate moment for the bride and groom with their families and a few friends.
After a while, we took some photos and posted them with the caption "#LoveYouAlways061021 #VermontPutARingOnIt"
"Are you ready? Are your bags already packed?"
"Of course. Ready as I'll ever be." Sapphira replied.
We went down and got into the car.
"I think I want to puke." Sapphira said.
"No. Don't tell me you're getting cold feet. It's not even your wedding day yet. Don't do this, you've wanted a life with Vermont since you met him." Kira reasoned to her and Sapphira calmed down.
When we got to the restaurant, all eyes landed on us. 3 men escorted each of us down the stairs, Vermont with Sapphira, the groomsman with Kira, and Felix with me. I didn't really have a choice but to accept his hand as people were staring at us. They led us to the dance floor and I heard Vermont whispering to Sapphira "God, now I know the difference between pretty and beautiful." then pecked her lips.
"Hey, you look beautiful." Felix suddenly spoke up.
"Nope. We're not doing this. We're not friends, we're barely acquaintances. So if I were you, I'd stop with the making nice and the compliments. Let's just finish this dance and pretend to not know each other."
"Okay." he replied.
The music started and we danced. For a minute, I was taken back to when we were young.
*flashback*
We were at my house, Sapphira and Kira were there with us. We were laughing and listening to a random playlist then suddenly a piece of music came up.
"May I have this dance?" Felix asked me.
I heard the screams and squeals of Sapphira and Kira urging me to dance with him.
"I don't know how to dance."
"I'm here. Don't worry. I'll guide your feet and your heart." He said and winked at me.
Felix has been courting me for a while now and I've been thinking over what I should answer him and I think I know it. I was looking down then Felix grabbed my chin to raise my head to him.
"Why so serious?" he asked.
"Oh, nothing. I was just thinking about something important that could change my life."
"I think I know what you're talking about. It's okay if you don't want to be with me because who does? And I promise you, it won't offend me. I could set you free and one word from you, I could-"
and before he could continue, I shut him up with a kiss. At first, he was surprised but then he started to respond and all else felt right. What ruined that moment was the sudden papers that were thrown at us.
"We get it. Stop with the PDA" Sapphira said.
"Oh shut up. You'll also be like that when you meet the one."
"So does that mean yes?" Felix asked hopefully.
"Yes. A thousand percent yes!" I said and hugged him.
"You owe us, Felix!" Kira yelled while she and Sapphira left the two of us in the room.
*present time*
"Ouch." I heard Felix suddenly say, the present Felix.
"Oh, sorry?" I said without letting any emotion in my voice.
The music ended, feeling like a million years has passed. I let go of him and stormed to Sapphira and Kira with their dancing partners with them.
"The look on Adria's face makes me want to run." I heard Sapphira say.
"Run! Run!" Kira said. But before they could run, I grabbed them to a halt.
"Oh. H-hi, Adria." Sapphira muttered. "We forgot to tell you, apparently. Felix is the Best man." she continued.
Before I could kill here, of course, this is metaphorical, Vermont grabbed her waist and pulled her to him.
"Sorry, Adria. That was my fault. I wasn't thinking of your situation and he has helped me get used to this location ever since I moved here." Vermont defended. "Oh. and I would like you to meet a childhood friend of mine and groomsman, Beau."
"Hi, Beau! Sorry, you didn't meet me in a better mood." I noticed how he was protectively interlocking his arm with Kira and with that, I raised my eyebrow at him.
"Hi. I have heard so much about you. You're the successful businesswoman and apparently a very beautiful one." He said.
"Don't bother sucking up to me. Besides, how long have you two known each other?" I asked him, pertaining to him and Kira.
"Just now and let's keep it short. Dinner is about to be served." Kira said.
We went to our specific seat and a five-course meal was served. After eating the dessert, a clinking of a bottle was heard.
"Hi, I'm Felix, the best man and I actually have some things to say. Love is something that not all people have the privilege to receive, I, myself, lost that." He looked at me shortly and then continued. "but this isn't about me, right? I first met Vermont standing in front of the house of my friend and he asked who was I and that the girl in the house was already taken. In fact, I knew that she wasn't and it was supposed to be their first real official date. I went there that day to see if Vermont would pass the standard because like everyone, I wanted the only best for my friend. Sapphira then got out of the house and saw us talking. I explained to Vermont that I was only a best friend and that will never be with her because I was still in love with her best friend. From that day, I knew that he was the perfect guy to my disastrous friend." He said and everyone laughed, even me.
"Hey!" Sapphira yelled while streaming happy tears down her face.
"To the future bride and groom!" We raised our glass and toasted to the happy couple.
Sapphira POV
"Our plan didn't work." I whispered to Vermont. "They need to talk and he needs to really tell her what happened that day."
After Felix's speech, we noticed that the tension was still there. That we weren't able to decrease it.
"Kira." I called to her. "Remember our plan?"
"Yep. I remember. Is it go time?"
"It's go time!"
I walked towards Adria and asked her for a favor.
"Hey, can you reach the tissue papers? It's in the supply closet."
"Why me?"
"Please?" I tried my best to give her puppy eyes just so she would agree and she did.
Adria POV
"Alright."
I went to the supply room to grab the tissue but then the doors suddenly closed. That is when I noticed I have company.
"What are you doing here?" We both said.
"Kira, Sapphira. Let us out or I swear I'll break down this door." Felix threatened.
"Nope. Your talk is long overdue. Tell her everything." Kira said, clearly to Felix.
"See you guys, later. And don't worry there's food in there and water. We'll come to get you in a while. Bye!" Sapphira said while I heard footsteps decreasing; meaning they really left us.
I tried prying the door open, pushing and pulling it. But it won't budge. That was also the moment that I noticed how small the supply closet was.
"Those bitches."
