-if i tell you to go, go
[K a n g S a e - b y e o k]
Darkness, it isn't a thing nor a feeling but somehow it makes that ache in the lower of my stomach grow. That overwhelming sensation that moves rapidly through your bones. Each and every cell and vein that runs through my body and pricks at the blood of my skin makes me jump. It's a calm yet petrifying feeling. One that brings me to sleep and keeps my mind awake.
"Well what did you see?" Player 212 asks. She places her hands on my shoulders as she presses her voice against my ear. "I'll tell you tomorrow."
Maybe I said that because I was truely tired, or because I was to disappointed of the outcome. It wasn't enough to fill the empty void in my chest, that constant reminder of the burnt past. "Why tomorrow? Just tell me now. What did you see up there? You were there long enough." She trails behind me. Her silenced whispers filling every inch of this place.
"Just go to sleep."
66 sat on the edge of her bed, dangling her feet from the edge of her bunk. The dimmed light from the piggy bank makes her face glow. The pigmentations of her delicate skin brightens as she leans her head up against the fist of her hand. Bringing herself further against the mattress as she slowly sinks herself deeper.
"Goodnight, 66."
::::::::::::
"It is now breakfast time. All players please line up in the centre." 66 slumps down next to me. Her amber eyes daze the roughed outline of my face. Her smile fading as she watches player 212 walk up to us with her hand propped up against the frame of the bed. "Hey, what did you see? Tell me now. You said you'd tell me in the morning. I know you had time to see something."
My fingers interlace as they lock my legs together, watching over the scene behind her. The lines forming in the centre of the room as the guards pull out the large crates.
66 shifts in her spot. Her chapped lips dry as she swipes her tongue over her sliced bottom lip. The discolouration under her eyes visible. Her fingers brush through the thick strands of her hair. Bringing it to a neatened state. "The guys in masks were melting soemthing in large pots." 212 leans in closer, her breaths nearly hitting my cheeks. "Melting what?"
The knots in my shoulder blade strengthen as I turn my head forward. Her voice loomes over the dawned thoughts that curse my skull. The creases in my head widen at the bare thoughts of the guards, what it felt like to be on the brink of life and death. How it felt to be caged in between the metal walls as they claw my body into a slim hold.
And yet, somehow the outcome wasn't enough. It wasn't worth the risk. And nor was it promising. "I'm not sure." I say blankly. The bitter taste of her voice leaves a tattered trail around the room. Her words push further against her teeth as she sends me a disgraced glare. "Damn it, I put on that whole show to save your life, and you're not sure?"
The vague sent of the liquid embroided into my mind. The vents filled with the insense as they grew stronger to my senses. "I smelt something," Sugar, that was the smell. The smell so enticing and sweet. "What smell?" She points her head down towards me. Her hands placed on the cap of her knee. "Sugar." 66 seals her lips closed. The light shade of pink colouring her cheeks.
"You smelled sugar? So they were melting sugar?" She makes hand gestures as she speaks. Her tone dropping as she thinks about the slim to none evidence with no hope. "I think so." She winces, her forehead crinkled as she cringes slightly. "That's all you saw?" I nod slowly. Trying to gather any lost memories or loose thoughts from the scene. Yet they hold nothing. "Listen, if I find out you're holding back, I'll burn your eyes out with a cig." 66 turns her head in a swift motion, mirroring my actions. Looking up at the girl with a sly smile and a faded frown.
