On the morning that Lightningkit, Blazekit and Poolkit were going to become apprentices, Lightningkit was especially annoying.

He kept pestering Honeyfrost and Emberstorm when is his ceremony, and the only reply was from Emberstorm, who dryly said that if he was annoying, his apprenticeship will be delayed.

Frostkit was peacefully taking a nap but Lightningkit decided to disturb her. She batted the older kit away with her paws. "Lightningkit, stop it!" she mewed, losing her patience.

"I am six moons old while you are just five!" Lightningkit mewed arrogantly. "You should listen to the older cat like me!"

If Frostkit was eating prey, she would have spat in out in his face.

"Older, but arrogant and a mousebrain!" she snapped.

"What is going on?" Blazekit asked, padding in.

"Your littermate is being a total mousebrain!" Frostkit let out all her frustration onto Blazekit, who blinked.

"Anyways, I came to say to Lightningkit that Silverstar is considering to postpone your ceremony," Blazekit mewed with a smirk.

"What? You are lying!" Lightningkit mewed, becoming more frantic.

"And Silverstar says that if you show good behavior, your ceremony will not be postponed," Blazekit mewed, with a strange calm air.

Like a leader! Frostkit thought.

Then, for the rest of the day, Lightningkit didn't annoy any cat or speak loudly.

"That's brilliant!" Frostkit mewed to Blazekit when Lightningkit was out of earshot.

"Actually, I made that up," he admitted. "I figured if I mentioned Silverstar, he would listen for once."

"Your idea worked," Frostkit purred. "Now I can have a nice, peaceful nap."

"Let all cats who are old enough to catch their own prey to gather at Highledge for a Clan meeting!" Silverstar's yowl brought Frostkit outside to watch.

Lightningkit, Blazekit and Poolkit were neatly groomed, and Lightningkit was on his best behavior.

"Lightningkit, Blazekit and Poolkit have reached the age of six moons, and are ready to become apprentices. From this moment on, Lightningkit, you will be known as Lightningpaw." Silverstar's gaze rested on a suitable mentor and she continued.

"Stripepad will be your mentor. Stripepad, you are a warrior of patience and forethought, and I hope you pass it on to Lightningpaw."

Frostkit laughed silently as she knew that Silverstar purposely added the word 'hope'.

"Blazekit, from this moment on, you will be known as Blazepaw. Softfoot, you are a warrior of loyalty and commitment. Pass these on to Blazepaw."

"Poolkit, from this moment on, you will be known as Poolpaw. Berryheart, you are a skilled hunter and kind. Pass these on to Poolpaw."

As they touched noses with their mentors, the Clan yowled, "Lightningpaw! Blazepaw! Poolpaw!"

"Apprentices at last!" Poolpaw mewed to Frostkit.

"I wish I could be an apprentice now," she mewed wistfully.

"Too bad, you have to wait for another moon!" Lightningpaw sneered, earning a cuff from Blazepaw.

"Don't be rude!" Blazepaw snapped.

"You too!" he retorted.

"I have better reasons than you!"

"No!"

"Yes!"

"Shut up!" Poolpaw interupted, her face frowning in disapproval. "Stop arguing already."

Tomcats, Frostkit thought in amusement.

"Okay," Blazepaw sighed, padding away. Lightningpaw snorted and stormed off.

"Good luck with these two," Frostkit teased, smiling.

"Don't worry, I will keep them in check," Poolpaw purred, winking. "I will become the 'fight breaker' soon."

"Bye," Frostkit mewed as Poolpaw went off.
