13.love songs

"Alright so here it says that they want us to write a love song" Nini said reading from the email that Benjamin and Jen sent them. "I think I have a few love songs written that might work"

"Wait—you actually write love songs?"

"Believe it or not Bowen, I'm not heartbroken all the time. I uh- I write about a lot of stuff"

"Why don't you ever—"

"So uh I was thinking, we could use one of the love songs I've written for inspiration,and we'll write the collab song together."

"Uh well I guess that works" Ricky said clearly confused of what just happened.

"My song book is at home so maybe we can do this some other time?" Nini stood up gathering all her things together

"I-okay?" Ricky said as she rushed out his house trying to make sense of what just happened

"I'll see you later Ricky" Nini said closing the door behind her.

After Nini left Ricky's house she sat in her car leaving herself with her thoughts. She didn't want to see anybody so she thought this would be the best place for her.

She didn't know why she reacted that way to Ricky asking her why she didn't release her other songs. The truth was that if she could, she would.

Jen was so convinced that if she wrote about anything else it'd effect her image and it wouldn't sell so she honestly didn't have a choice. The only reason she was able to release a love song now, is because of how public her fake relationship is.

And truthfully, Nini was scared.

She was so scared to put herself out there and change things. She'd convinced herself that
her heartbroken songs were her best ones.

Finally, Nini got herself together to make her way home. She knew that she couldn't sit outside Ricky's house forever.

"Kourt I'm home" Nini called out as she entered the house

"Finally, there you are Nini! We've been waiting for you" Kourtney said latching her arm around Nini's and leading her to her room.

"We?" Nini asked slightly confused

"Yeah, me and Ashlyn. You didn't forget about the sleepover we planned did you? Both of us were really looking forward to this" Kourtney said in a somewhat disappointed tone.

"That explains the green face mask" Nini chuckled "I got caught up in a few things for work. Give me like 5 minutes to get changed into my Pajamas and I'll meet you guys in your room"

"Okay perfect" Kourtney smiled before heading back into her room where Ashlyn was waiting.

"Alright, so what's the plan for tonight? Pizza? Movies?" Nini asked as she walked into kourtneys room.

"Yeah, that among other things" Ashlyn laughed "me and Kourt have an entire list of things that we want to do"

"Sounds perfect" Nini smiled. This would be the perfect distraction from everything that was currently going on in her life. Especially everything Ricky related

"Okay, first things first. We kinda started without you Nini, but we're doing face masks. Here's yours" Kourtney said handing the girl her mask

"And while we're waiting on them to do what they're supposed to do, I have something to tell you guys" Kourtney told the two girls, and both of them looked at her curiously

"Spill" Ashlyn told the girl

"Well it's not anything serious yet, we've been kinda keeping things casual lately" Kourtney started and both girls started smiling ear to ear knowing exactly where this was going "but me and Howie have kind of been seeing each other"

"I knew it! Nini you owe me $20" Ashlyn said and Nini playfully rolled her eyes before digging through her purse and finding a $20 bill.

"Wait! You guys bet on this?"

"I knew it was coming at some point. You guys' chemistry on set has shifted majorly for the better. Nini was convinced that it was all in my head"Ashlyn admitted

"I'm still super excited for you Kourt! Tell me all about it! Like how it happened. Give me all the details" Nini squealed excitedly.

"Okay so basically, it was a long day on set, and both of us were a combination of starving and exhausted. We didn't want to go home hungry so we agreed to meet the diner."

"Isn't that where most people go on dates?" Ashlyn asked

"Yeah but both of us love their food so we agreed to go as friends. It wasn't supposed to be anything more"

Kourtney answered before Ashlyn nodded

"Sorry for interrupting, continue"

"Okay so basically at the diner both of us had so much fun with each other. Conversation flowed so smoothly, and time moved so fast while we were together. I don't know if it's because we play a couple on tv, but it was honestly amazing." Kourtney smiled thinking back to that night.

Both Ashlyn and Nini awed in response. It was obvious that Kourtney really liked this boy.

"Wait. So how did that turn into the casual thing?" Nini asked

"Oh! Right. Basically after that night things got kind of awkward between us to say the least, and I couldn't figure out why. So instead of playing guessing games with him, I asked him what was going on. He told me he had a hard breakup with his ex, and wasn't sure if he was ready for another relationship despite how well that night went so we agreed to do the casual thing. Just so he could kind of test the waters"

"How long has this been going on Kourt?" Nini asked

"About a month or two. It hasn't been too long"

"How did I not notice this?" Nini asked still kind of shocked that she never put it together that the two were seeing each other. Especially with Kourtney being her roommate.

"You honestly had no way to" Kourtney chuckled "I literally never talked about him that way, and when we'd hang out we'd always go back to his place."

"So why tell us now?" Ashlyn asked

"Because I think he's gonna ask me to be his girlfriend soon. I think he's been throwing hints" Kourtney said excitedly

"We're so happy for you Kourt. We can tell you really like him just by the way you're talking about him" Nini told the girl, and Ashlyn nodded in agreement

Before Kourtney could respond the timer went off for the masks

"Oop. Looks like the masks are done! Nini you still have about 20 more minutes on yours" Kourtney told Nini and she nodded.

"Next up is karaoke" Ashlyn said excitedly
