"None of you need to return to the academy," All of them brightened.
"Does that mean we're. . .?!" Naruto asked happily.
"Yeah, you three. . ." Rinn got a forbidding feeling, "Should quit being ninja!"
Sasuke rushed towards Kakashi, and before anyone could do anything, Kakashi was sitting on Sasuke with his foot on his head. Rinn blinked. She hadn't even seen him move.
"Don't step on Sasuke-kun!" Sakura shouted, and Rinn rolled her eyes. That was what she was concerned with right now.
"Do guys think being a ninja is easy?" Kakashi asked, "Why do you think we're training by breaking into groups?"
Rinn frowned. What was that supposed to mean? Why were they split into groups?
"What do you mean?" Sakura asked.
"In other words, you three don't understand the answer of this test," Kakashi said sternly.
"The answer?" Naruto mumbled in confusion.
"Yes. The answer that determines if you pass or fail,"
"We've been asking what that is. . ." Sakura said.
"Teamwork."
Rinn's eyes widened as the other three glanced at her. So that was the meaning behind the test? Teamwork? But that's what she did! Well, now that she thought about it. . . Kakashi did say three of them failed, and there were four of them.
"Teamwork?" Sakura asked.
"Well, it's too late now, but if all four of you had come at me together, you might have been able to take the bells," Kakashi said.
"But -" Rinn sputtered, "But we -" A look from Kakashi shut her up.
"Wait, you set it up with four people, but there's only three bells!" Sakura said, "If we worked together and got the bells, only three of us would pass!"
"Exactly." Kakashi affirmed, "I purposely pitted you against each other. I wanted to see if you could overcome that, and put the squad ahead of yourselves. A Genin should have a natural feels for teamwork. But you, it never even crossed your minds."
"But sensei!" Rinn protested, "We were going to meet up to come up with a plan to take you down together, dattebayo!"
"Yes, but you were the only one out of them who genuinely wanted to work together." Kakashi said, pointing at Rinn, "Rinn is the only one who even thought bout working together, and even then -" he turned to the other three sharply -
"Sakura! You obsessed over Sasuke and didn't even help Naruto, who was right in front of you. And even after Rinn helped you you still did not want to work together, only agreeing because Sasuke would be there!"
"Naruto! You do everything on your own, everything. And when Rinn convinced you to come with her, you got distracted by the bentos!"
"And you -" Kakashi crushed Sasuke's head tighter against the ground, "- thought that the others were so far beneath you they were worthless, even after Rinn helped you!"
Kakashi lectured them on the importance of teamwork, and Rinn zoned out.
"I'll give you one more chance," Kakashi turned from the KIA stone. "However, the battle for the bell will be much more harsher after lunch. Eat lunch only if you are up to the challenge."
"But! Don't let Naruto eat." Kakashi said, "This is punishment for breaking the rules and trying to eat lunch early. If anyone feeds them, they will immediately fail. I'm the rule here, got it? Oh, yeah, and Rinn come with me, you can eat with me,"
