Is Being Kind Worth It?

Rosie watches at some distance as some people keep give their prayer to the new grave, the last sleeping place for a certain boy. Beside her, Jisoo leans against the tree even more as one of her hand fixes her sunglasses that cover her from the sunlight. The three ghosts around Rosie don't have that kind of protection though so the sunlight pierces their body freely, making their transparent body become even more transparent, especially Hank (thanks to its fur).

Rosie glances to Lisa who watches the people leave one by one until there’s only Mrs. Cho left. The woman kneels beside her son’s grave as her hand strokes the said grave. Rosie heaves a sigh. She heard her husband already sent to jail.

“Do you guys think she will be okay without her husband and her child?”

“I’m not worried,” Minho answers, making the human looks down to the ghost. “My mother is a really strong person.”

Rosie smiles gently to the boy before the latter walk closer to her mother but not without turns around to the trio and the dog while gives them a smile and a wave. Rosie and Lisa smile back and return the wave while Jisoo just stares blankly to the sight in front of her, unable to see the ghost.

“If the situation is a bit different, I actually think I can get along with Minho well,” Rosie says as she watches Minho kneels beside her mother. “What do you guys think will happen to the boy now?”

“He doesn’t have anything that chained him to the world now so he can leave to the other side peacefully,” Lisa answers her. “But for now, I think he wants to be with his mother for a little more.”

Rosie nods but then she suddenly hears Jisoo’s voice, “His unfinished business is finish now so he can go to the other side whenever he wants.”

“Yes, I know. Lisa answered me first.”

Lisa and Jisoo chuckle as the latter takes off her sunglasses, leaving her face bare and making the bandage on her head become clearly visible. Rosie’s eyes drop slightly to the older girl’s shirt, knowing how thick the bandage that been hidden by that piece of cloth.

“I still think you should stay at the hospital for a few more days.”

“Being in the hospital is boring and I’m already healthy enough, even the doctor and nurses agree.”

Rosie heaves a sigh. “You can be so stubborn.” The older girl chuckles again at that, eliciting a glare from Rosie before she hisses, “That’s not funny.”

Jisoo closes her mouth although the nod she let out make it seems like she doesn't take what Rosie said too seriously. It’s infuriating. The brown haired girl suddenly looks at Rosie though with serious and unreadable eyes, making the latter blink. Jisoo’s eyes then move to area around Rosie as her lips part, “Is Lisa still here?”

“Yes, she’s still beside me.”

Jisoo nods again. “Tell her not to go anywhere. She and I still owe you something.”

Without waiting for any answer, Jisoo turns around and walks away, gesturing Rosie to follow her. Her eyebrows furrow in confusion but Rosie still follows even though that furrow disappear when she hears Jisoo say, “I think it’s time for us to tell you everything.”

Rosie walks closely behind Hank as her mind keeps running through everything Jisoo just told her. They went into a small restaurant near the graveyard, a place where Jisoo told her everything with Lisa mostly be in silence. That was already around an hour ago. Rosie heaves a sigh as she recalls what Jisoo said to her.

When she was 10, Jisoo and her family moved to Korea from America. Their neighbors that time had a child who happily introduced herself as Lalisa. Jisoo said their friendship isn't smooth at the beginning. Jisoo realizes she can be intimidating (Rosie knows this after all she was intimidated by this girl once) but once Lisa decides she wants something, she can become really persistence (Rosie knows this too) and she wanted to befriend the new girl so befriended the new girl it is.
