Chapter 7

                                            

  I step into a cool, damp room.

  “Hello there” A large female wolf says.

  “ are you Sparkfall?” I ask.

  “ Yes, what's the problem?” She is very friendly.

  “ I stepped on something and it stings” I say lifting my paw.

  “ Its a star thisle, those hurt, one moment-”.

  “OUCH!” I say. She rushes over to a split in the wall and grabs a leaf. She dabbs some juice on it.” That stings even more” I say. She giggles.

  “ I would go easy on it, but you can't get out of training” She says jokingly.

  “ Thank you”

  “ you're welcome” She calls then goes inside to do healer things. I walk with a limp to the nursery.

  “ What's wrong?”Moonlight asks as she walks out of the nursery.

  “ Its nothing” I say reassuringly. We walk to the food pile and I grab two wood mice. Plump ones. I sit next to Moonlight and she tells me about her mother, and how she wants a boy now that shes had a girl.

  “Hazlewood found out she will have pups to today, Isn't that nice” She says happily.

  A howl comes from tall rock. A meeting? Right in the middle of dinner? Me and Moonlight stop eating to go to tall rock and listen.

  “ We can't find Sharptooth, We have picked up his scent near the Darktribe territory” There are gasps in the audience” We can't know for sure though, if he left our territory. We have very few apprentices, that is why I'm making Stamperpaw an apprentice, Shadowfall would you take him on?”

  “ Of course.” Shadowfall replies.

  “ Remember, he is under age and to go easy on him in training. Can you handle a young apprentice?” He asks Shadowfall.

  “Of course I can”

  “Good, Now you all know where the shack is near the river. A cougar has been spotted and are living near there. We don't have pups now but we are expecting a litter soon, In the past cougars have taken our young. Its not to much, pups disappearing happen on rare occasions to worry about, we’ll drive it off our territory, for good.” He says in a motivating voice. The tribe is happy to hear this especially Hazlewood and Blueye.

   I walk with stamperpaw and moonlight to the apprentice cave.

  “My first night as an apprentice. You know, I'm going to train longer than anyone, cool” Stamperpaw says happily” Where do I sleep?” He then asks.

  “ Anywhere you'd like” Moonlight responds. I curl up on the bed next to Stamperpaw. He is smaller and will need some warmth. In the morning Darkscar calls me over to him.

  “Yes “ I say, gesturing that he has my attention.

  “ I'm taking you to the rabbit nest we are going to work on you hunting skills.” he says happily.” But first I'm sending another search party for Sharptooth.”

  “ Okay, I can't wait to start training” I say then walk to join Moonlight and Stamperpaw. “Hey guys” I say strolling up to them.” What are your mentors planning to do today” I ask

  “ I am going on a walk to the log with Shadowfall” Stamperpaw replies.

  “ I'm helping Sparkfall today, or at least till they find my mentor” She looks down. I think she is upset about how she was mad at him for leaving training.

  “ They will find him, even if they have to go beyond territory.” I choose to say comfortingly. “ I'm going to the rabbit nest with Darkscar” I say triumphantly, forgetting Moonlights tender feelings. She starts to cry and runs out of camp. What did I do wrong?

  I chase after her, till I'm stopped by my mentor.”Are you ready to go” he asks. I pause for a moment, and think about Moonlight. There is a feeling of misery and grief at the same time.

  “no” I flatly say to my leader and run out of camp after her. Darkscar stands there in shock and his face then turns into anger. I keep running, but I can't find her.

  “Moonlight” I call out. I stand still. The wind ruffles my fur. I start to hear the slight sound of whimpering.”moonlight” I say softly as I enter an abandon bear cave. She sits in the dark but her white fur gives it away.”Moonlight I- I'm sorry” I say.

  “ Its fine Its just-”

  “Just what” I asks

  “Sharptooth is my mothers father. I can't stand seeing her so devastated. I- I want my grandfather back” I want to gasp. Her grandfather. Thats why she is so emotional.

  “ Lets go find him” I propose.

  “but you have training to do” she states.

  “ I said know to training, you should have seen Darkscars face” I say. She giggles.

  “Well then, I don't see why we shouldn't” She says. Moonlight gets up and starts to walk out the cave. I follow her out of the cave.” I picked up a faint scent on my way here of him, If I find it we may be able to find him” she tells me in a whisper.

  Some time passes before we find his sent. Moonlight starts to walk faster till she starts jogging. She really wants to find him.

  “Wait up” I call as I fall behind. We finally come up on the river. We both look at eachother. This means he went into Darktribe territory.

  “What do we do now?” Moonlight asks. Then a voice that echoes in my memories startles me I turn and there is a face I never thought I’d see again.
