"Kreed Merc", the Commander said, introducing himself. Crux nodded at him.
"I know you and you're crazy.! You know you signed our-""Death warrant," Merc interjected .
" No dramatics. You need us as much as we need you. You know where Calfate is. The dream showed a sliver of what you know. We've been sent by The Seekers to expedite you to Credible Prime, to find Calfate....".
He paused and squeezed off a round that smacked one of the Yend infantry right mid chest, sending the armored trooper ratcheting back into motionless heap.
" ...to find the truth. You have that locked inside of you and we're here to get it out."
Crux was bewildered.
"But how? I'm nobody. I'm a fraud. I don't read Beacons. I pretend I do. That dream was just a glitch. It's impossible that I know anything about the location of Calfate"
More Yend ships were arriving. The hiss- pop of gargantuan warships falling out of relativity punctuated the chaos outside the studio. Creed, struggling through the increasing crescendo of arriving ships said something Crux couldn't quite make out. But it sounded ominous. Then as if the ground beneath him were suddenly sucked away crooks felt the instantaneous sensation of falling that comes right before trans dispersal. A blinding flash and Crux and Creed were aboard the pirate frigate. Aboard the Hammerlight.
