To approach Kalus was something of a suicide mission. It's million, million fragments floating across haphazard orbits almost exclusively ensure collision. Ship after ship had tried to access Kalus without any knowledge of how to navigate there. Pirates and mercantiers , convinced that treasures await those who can access Kalus, crashed ship after ship adding to the swarming wreckage around the planet's core. It stood to legend that the treasure was vast knowledge that imbibed the possessor with absolute manipulation semicolon control of The Vast . It was a way to control trade routes, economics, War and Peace. The treasure was knowledge so profound that mathematics knelt in its presence. It was no less than the power to maintain The Vast. This secret knowledge was embedded in the core of the long Dead planet. Some said it was a device that provided guidance to The Answer. Others swore that it had something so valuable that possessing it would tip the scales of planets, wealth that defied reason. Knowledge is power and money is power and adventurers for eons had tried to penetrate her chaotic crust of trash rocks and structure to find the elusive thing so steeped in legend.
But now the Hammerlight rumbled through the debris with rocks of every size ricocheting off the hall. The ship crept through the more treacherous spots, pushing aside massive asteroids like some clearing machine. Crux looked through the cockpit window as Kalus swirled and tumbled through his field of vision. In his head, somewhere deep, somewhere inextricably connected to his mind, he felt drawn to this planet. For a moment he was like the debris that somehow found connection to the core. It was a low hum, comforting and constant and along with that hum came the anticipation of discovery. He had a fullness of heart and a sense of rhythm.
" Whatever it is we're close to it" Crux said blankly.
Creed was hunched over the controls , navigating daintily through the mess before them.
"How do you know?" He asked, already knowing the answer.
"Because," Crux smiled. "It's singing."
