"Are you avoiding me?" ... Am I..? ...
"You just... you're not yourself. Usually, you're much more energetic or- or you're busy at Wangshu Inn trying to call out to me." Xiao's being unusually talkative.
"What's the point of doing the same routine when you're never going to show up." My back still faces him. He will hurt you sooner or later. ...will he..?
"Y/n, I-"
"I've heard enough. I... I don't want to see you.." I don't want to hurt you...
"Tell me what I did wrong! Why! Just why are you avoiding me!" Xiao was getting more desperate.
"You did nothing wrong.."
"Then why..?" Xiao approaches me, expressing more emotions than he has ever shown in the last decade. He sounded broken as if he was grieving.
"... I don't wish to talk about it.." Xiao placed his hands on my shoulders with such a gentle touch, it felt welcoming yet... frightening...
"And I don't want to lose you." Lose me?
"... Cloud Retainer said that.. you could succumb to the same fate.. like the others. And if you do, I... I have to end you." Same fate? The others? Is he talking about the other Yakshas? I turned around to see the Guardian Yaksha holding back tears in his eyes as his hands fall back to him.
"Are you saying that I might go nuts because of the karmic debt?" I joked, trying to lighten the mood.
"Y/n.. you're the only one in this world who has gone through the same pain as me. You're the only one who would understand me without me even saying anything. Don't fall prey to the darkness.." His hands clenched into a fist, becoming tighter with every word he spoke.
"... Let me make you a promise then. If I fall into the dark, I'll come back."
"How can you promise such a thing."
"Because there's one person who can save me. You. I trust you to bring me back every time I fall. Just like I do and will bring you back every time you fall." I held out my pinkie to do a pinkie promise, but Xiao was clueless about how to do a pinkie promise so I retracted my hand.
"Fine, but don't you dare break your promise." All I could do was smile at him. After all... weren't promises meant to be broken..?
