F/n's POV

When I woke up, I found myself in a foreign room with a familiar face. I was on a bed in a circular room. But the walls were made of... fabric? The roof was conical with the tip on top, also made of fabric. Alatus sat on a chair and was bent over onto the bed. Wait.. he's holding my hand too! What in the world happened and where the heck am I!? Is this a dream?

I must have tightened my grip on Alatus's hand because he slurred awake.

"F/n? Are you awake?" He rubbed his eyes.

"Am I dreaming?" Seriously, why is that the first thing I said? And maann is my voice all scratchy again!!

He let my hand go and walked over to a... wood-filled table with knobs on the side..? He poured a glass of water and handed it to me.

"Drink something. Your voice is raspy." And there he goes masking his emotions under an 'unreadable' mask. I took the glass from his hands and down the water. Wow.. that feels so good... He returned to his seat and watched over me.

"Thank you Alatus."

"It's Xiao now.." He looks away, trying to hide his emotions again.

"Alright..? Xiao. ... Why are you Xiao now?" I still have no idea what's the current situation.

"F/n.. the god that controlled us has fallen." Fallen? That should be great news! But Alatus- sorry Xiao doesn't seem happy at all.

"I'm now working for Rex Lapis. To show him my gratitude for saving us." Xiao still hasn't looked back to me so there's still something he's trying to hide from me.

I placed the glass on the weird table structure and reached out to Alatus's hand — Xiao's hand! I'm never getting his new name right...

"Hey.. what's wrong?" He looked back with his neutral expression but his eyes had widened ever so slightly.

"Nothing's wrong." He tried to remove his hands but I held on as tightly as I could. Alatus could easily remove his hands even with the little strength I'm exerting but he didn't.

"Alatus. I know you... I can tell when something's bothering you."

"Sigh.. fine.. I've always thought that when our god died, we would be free. But Rex Lapis had offered me a new chance.. a new life.. it won't atone for the sins I committed.. nothing will.." He stopped talking for a brief moment.

"But..?" I pressed him on.

"I have to join forces with him and battle against forces of evil that plague the land. ... I have to fight again.."

"Alright. Show me to this... Rex Lapis.. I'll join the fight with you." I got up and my legs left the bed before Alatus could stop me.

"F/n! Be careful! You just woke up from 2 days worth of sleep!!" Alatus had a sudden change in mood, which I always find amusing. Just as my feet landed on the floor and my body was completely off the bed. I fell.

Thankfully though, Alatus had caught me. He placed my arm around his shoulder holding onto my hand, with his other hand on my waist.

"Sit." He helped me up from the bed.

"Tsk. You're no fun." I joked.

"This isn't about fun!" Alatus was mad, really mad... I practically shrank smaller when he raised his voice. I think this is the first time he expressed so much emotion since... forever!

"I-I'm sorry... F/n... I just.. you had me so worried back there.. back at that cell.." Alatus released me, bringing his hand to his head. I tilted my head. What did happen? The last thing I remember was being back at the cell alone. I don't remember seeing Alatus at all.

"... you want to know don't you.." He looked at me with a hint of defeat as I nodded my head.

"... when I came back...I found you unconscious in your cell, lying down. You were so pale compared to the last time I saw you. Everything about you was different. You were skinnier! Have you seriously not been eating! I know that even when I was around you still barely ate but at least you ate something! How long has it been!? 10? 20 days?" Alatus exasperated. I know better than to interrupt him when he's like this. But the port soul who came in was not so lucky.

"Excuse me-"

"Leave!" Alatus glared daggers at whom I assume was a medical... what do you call them again? Yea anyways- They quickly left after getting a fright.

"I'm sorry for scaring you."

"Scared? Who said anything about me being scared." And there he goes glaring daggers at me.

"Whatever. Now, can I pleaseeee see this Rex Lapisss?"

"No. You need rest." He folded his arms, unwilling to budge.

"Then can you bring him here?"

"No."

So we bickered for some time and he lost to me. Rex Lapis then let me fight alongside Alatus under the name of Y/n, and only when I'm well-rested then I can start.
