They waited in an old warehouse shell for Stormfront to pass. Violet sat in the back of one car with Annie, Hughie and M.M., shielded by the curve of metal above them and the guns around them. They had ones of many kinds leaning against the shield, Violet resting her elbows on the seat rests awaiting Stormfront.
She passed overhead like the swooshing of an eagle, Billy talking into his walkie-talkie, to Frenchie. There was only one good reason why she was rushing away so soon, Hughie jumping forward in his seat to break the news.
"Holy shit," he gasped as he leaned forward beside Violet to show the others in the front, the news from NNC revealing the pictures they leaked to the press. Alleged Nazi ties the news reporter said, but they knew how much more was yet to be shared. She was finished. Even if nothing came of their mission that day, there would be no possible way she could return to the tower without an outcry. Violet smirked watching the reporter. There were even memes already being made, the four of them laughing at the jingle.
From the woods rushed Frenchie and Kimiko who had set up their part of the mission, dumping the empty duffle bags with them. Grabbing the laptop off Hughie, Frenchie synced the speakers together, giving his confirmation to Billy once he was ready. The sound would be loud enough to irritate anyone's ears, but a Supe child who had been sheltered from many loud noises would not handle it. So it would leave dear old dad to hunt for whoever dared to mess with his son's ears... Leaving them chance to slip inside and get Ryan.
And Homelander fell right for it.
"Now!" M.M. screamed from his spot just outside the warehouse shell, waving a hand down as Billy drove out from under the cover with Becca. And then, it was a waiting game. Violet got out of the vehicle and sat on the front of the car, shaking her hands as she waited for the two of them. Homelander could be gullible, but he was still the strongest man on the planet, so Violet was forever fearful. But they weren't meant to come back, Billy was meant to get them and drive and drive away until they were all safe and he could call them back.
There was little time, so little of a window before Homelander would figure it all out and rush back to the cabin where he and Ryan were staying. Violet wondered if she should have gone after her brother, and they could have talked about Vogelbaum, about everything. Did he know of Stormfront's involvement in Violet's life? Or was he too gullible to her advances? Perhaps if Violet slipped away she could tell him, she could explain the way her mind her went foggy when she watched Vogelbaum explode in front of her eyes. It was still rolling around her mind like she was forever tumbling through the memory. And Homelander would probably be the only person who understood how she felt.
Rightfully so, they were all confused when Billy returned with Becca and Ryan and weren't riding off to safety. Violet hopped off the front of the car and eyed Billy confused as he got out, M.M. questioning him but was met with nothing. And Billy refused to speak until he marched his way to where Violet and M.M. were standing, gun tightly in his hand.
"What's wrong?" Violet asked.
"Take my car M.M., get them both to Mallory," he ordered, "get them both safe."
"No, no. That's not part of the plan."
"The plan just changed," Billy raised his voice as Becca got out of the car, "M.M. you're the only one I trust with 'em."
As Becca approached Violet stepped back, because M.M. was the only other person who would get them out alive. She saw it in Billy, that desperation as he handed M.M. his weapon. Though it was hard for Becca to see it, it was hard for her to watch him give himself up for her. Again and again he did it. Was he ever going to change?
"Hey. What's happening? No," she shook her head as M.M. made his way past her and to the car.
"M.M. is gonna take you to a woman with the CIA," Billy explained, guiding her back to the car.
