"Ah! Miss Whittle, what a pleasure to meet you." That was the first thing, Esma heard after entering the dean's office again. An older man sat in his chair and was curiously observing the girl, who just entered.
Some teachers were there, waiting patiently for the girl to speak up again. Mister Hubert positioned himself near the dean's desk with a strict-looking woman, miss Kilijanek and another older lady that Esma never saw before. The girl nodded respectfully, greeting all the people in the room.
"You are Mister Hoover, right? Nice to meet you." She stated calmly and decided to start asking questions right away but got interrupted immediately.
"Let's be short, Esma. We have no time for casualties." Mister Hubert intervened and then put the bug he caught before on the dean's table. The older woman leaned closer to take a look as well. "Your abilities are a gift and a curse, blah, blah, blah. You have the opportunity to train them and help to make this world become a better place. What do you say?" The teacher then straightened and explained it to her. The girl opened her eyes wide because didn't understand a single thing.
"Tomas!" The older woman then turned to the teacher, giving him an irritated look.
"Look, we know that It might be really hard for you but there is something wrong with your powers, so we can either train you to use them or hide them inside of you forever." Miss Kilijanek rolled her eyes and stated clearly to explain everything. The girl frowned and took a serious look trying to understand what the hell they all wanted from her.
"I know why you are confused. You have your own questions, don't you?" The dean then chuckled sincerely and leaned in his chair. His voice was deep and manly.
"You knew my father. Was he somehow connected to this magic stuff?" The girl started questioning him quite curiously.
"I did know your father. He was a co-founder of this academy and yes... the "magic stuff" was in him too." He answered calmly and smiled again, making the girl a bit embarrassed for being so impolite. Apparently, "magic stuff" seemed offensive to them.
"I want to know why it happens. Why the butterflies?" The girl then hid her sight and asked her next question.
"We don't know what is the source of your powers, yet. But it's all changeable, actually. All we have to do is let you develop them." The dean took a serious glance at the older woman and she nodded. "We can also get rid of them completely if they bother you too much."
"They bother me. Please, get rid of them." Esma stated confidently like never before making the people in the room quite surprised.
"Wha- wait! wait! wait, wait, wait, wait, wait..." Mister Hubert seemed to be the most surprised one and shook his hands to stop the girl from speaking again and making up her mind completely. "How can you say it so confidently when you have no idea about anything?."
"I can't live with those butterflies appearing constantly." Esma sighed a bit unsure of why he was against her decision.
"What I say is, we can teach you to train them for a better cause." The teacher stated calmly and leaned his head to the side, still observing her curiously. "You can materialize matter, kid. It's not a simple process."
"I have no idea how it happens. It doesn't have a logical explanation." Esma shook her head in disagreement and stood confidently in the room.
"Sometimes magic can't be logical, dear. You have to understand that." Miss Kilijanek crossed her hands on her chest and gave the girl an understanding glance. "We can't give you full guarantee whether it will be possible to hide them completely because we don't know what triggered them in the first place."
