HarperI stood in front of the tree, placing the star on top, with his assistance. He hoisted me up, holding me by my waist so I could reach the top. He put me down and I grinned, turning on the lights, illuminating the gorgeous tree.
"Perfect." I said.
"Harper! Someone's here!" Elliot exclaimed, looking out the window.
Nervousness washed through me, Ace was going to meet my family. My whole family. I didn't tell him. I should've but I didn't. I could only hope he'll be okay with it.
Why wouldn't he be?
A few cars parked in front of our house, along the street and they made they're way to the door. Elliot ran to answer it and Amelia followed.
Ace and I went to the kitchen and took out the food from the fridge and set everything neatly on the counter and table. I turned on the holiday music and greeted the people that arrived.
More and more guests started arriving and the house was getting crowded.
Most of them were aunties, uncles, cousins, family friends and others were my friends, Elliot's friends and my mom's coworkers.
"Harper is that your boyfriend?" my cousin asked, she was Elliot's age. I looked over at Ace. My aunt gave me a pointed look.
"Yes." he told them before I could answer. Butterflies fluttered in my stomach and chest.
My little cousin rolled her eyes and came up to me, giving me a hug. I smiled and told her to go eat something, they must be exhausted and hungry after all the flights they had to catch to get here.
"Finally." my uncle muttered. I shook my head at him. My aunt started talking to Ace and could tell he was a little nervous, my aunt was a very extroverted person.
I laughed inwardly and decided to leave him alone with them. He shot me a glare as I walked out of the kitchen.
I blew him a kiss and found my other cousins in the living room. I haven't seen them in a while, due to the fact that they live all the way across the world. We caught up and they had so many questions about what it was like living in white land and many more about Ace.
We were all seated on the couch, talking and eating snacks.
"Are you going to college?" Mia asked, she was two years younger than me.
"Yeah. I'm going to one in New york. Business school." she nodded.
"Look at Harper, she's going to be rich one day. Make sure you give us some money." I laughed.
"I'm not giving y'all anything." they all started berating me on how much more money I could make if I chose to be a doctor instead.
"You guys sound like grandma." we all laughed.
"How long have you and your boyfriend been together for?"
"A few months."
"Harper's in love, guys!" Was I?
I mean I don't know, it was too early to say I was. Right? It takes a lot to fall in love with somebody. It takes time. But then again, Ace and I have been through a lot together. We've spent a lot of time with each other.
He meant a lot to me. I cared about him deeply and I saw a future with him. These feelings had to mean something. Maybe not love but they definitely meant something.
Something big.
Though, I wouldn't know how it felt to be in love, because I've never been, a part of me didn't want to. Because where there is love, there's always heartbreak and pain.
