I posted ch. 16 just an hour before this one, so make sure you read that chapter before this one!

---

Once Harry starts driving, I notice that he's heading out of the main city.

"Where are we going, anyway?" I ask.

"It's a surprise," he tells me with a wink. I'm instantly reminded of the last time he drove us to a 'surprise,' in which he almost killed us while skydiving.

"I swear to god, Harold, if you make me go bungee jumping or something-"

"Relax, sunshine," he says, "You won't have to do anything except stay in the car."

"Good," I reply.

We drive in silence for a few more minutes, getting farther away from the main part of Vegas and driving down more secluded roads.

Harry turns on the radio, flipping through the stations until he lands on a song he likes, Alanis Morissette's Ironic, and begins singing along in his deep voice.

"An old man turned 98. He won the lottery and died the next day.

It's a black fly in your chardonnay.

It's a death row pardon, two minutes too late.

And isn't it ironic? Don't you think?"

"Sing along, sunshine!" He tells me before going into the chorus.

"It's like raaaaaaaaaiiiiiiiin on your wedding day

It's a free riiiiiiiiiiiide when you've already paid

It's the good adviiiiiiiiice that you just didn't take

And who would have thought? It figures."

He looks over to me with a big smile on his face, the most genuine smile I've seen from him yet. And I'm not going to lie, it's kind of contagious.

"C'mon, don't you like this song?" He asks. I roll my eyes at him, but smile a little and begin singing along while he listens.

"Mr. Play-It-Safe was afraid to fly.

He packed his suitcase, and kissed his kids goodbye.

He waited his whole damn life to take that flight.

And as the plane crashed down he thought 'well isn't this nice?'

And isn't it ironic? Don't you think?"

"Hell yes it is!" He says, and we both sing along together.

"It's like raiiiiiiiiin on your wedding day

It's a free riiiiiiide when you've already paid.

It's the good adviiiiice that you just didn't take.

And who would have thought? It figures."

I can't believe it, but I'm actually having fun. With Harry

"Well life has a funny way of sneakin' up on ya when you think everything's okay and everything's going riiiiight.

And life has a funny way of helping you out when you think everything's going wrong and everything blows up in your faaaace."

I'm kind of amazed, but we actually sound really good together, our voices perfectly harmonizing.

During the next part of the song, Harry decides to really amp it up with exaggerated expressions and movements as he sings.

"It's a traffic jam, when you're already late." He playfully hits the steering wheel and acts like he's yelling at someone on the road.
