Sheriff Desario, the maker of psycho killer Maren, aims his gun at Ezio. Meanwhile, Reyna and the others watch as I'm being dragged along with my father, who is Satan undercover.
"I will rip his throat from ear to ear," Ezio howls at the policemen. "Don't you dare shoot me."
Out of the corner of my eye, I notice Reyna is splattered in blood. From the way the stains cover her, I doubt they're from her own wounds. I breathe a sigh of relief. But I inhale that sigh quickly as I watch her face. She looks like she's having a war in her head: good VS evil. I'm familiar with that war every day. I'm accustomed to that expression. And with the recent events, I think I have a good idea of what she's struggling with.
Does she let me die? Or does she try to save me?
Suddenly, her face sets in a determined manner. She crouches low to the ground, one hand with a knife and one directed at my father and me. Is she crazy? Is she going to throw a knife in her condition? Back at the meadow, I knew she wouldn't hit me because she couldn't afford to. But now, she hates me. So is she going to try and save me while taking the risk of my death, or is she finishing me off herself?
Gathering force behind her throw, she spins and grunts as she lets the blade fly. Cringing, I squeeze my eyes shut as the blade skims right along my neck and digs itself deep into Ezio's. Letting me go, he gasps and holds his throat. The blade dug into his windpipe. Taking the opportunity of this monster's vulnerability, I remove the knife before forcing it into the hollow of his neck and driving it up to his throat until I reach his chin.
Ezio falls to his knees before looking up at me, his eyes pleading for mercy.
I kick him in the face, finally ending his existence.
The cops lower their guns and Desario pats me on the back. "You did well, Deputy. You did well." Tentatively, Grayson approaches. "You did well, also, Grayson. Hey, you okay? You look a little...queasy."
"I'd feel better with a loaded gun," Desk Guy admits.
"If you say so..." Desario grumbles, handing Grayson his gun.
Suddenly, a wild groan sounds from Ezio as he jackknife up and charges at us. "Fuckthat shit!" Grayson screeches, aiming the gun and squeezing the trigger until the magazine empties. Finally, Ezio is dead.
"They always come back," Desario eerily says.
"What?" I inquire, suddenly on the defence...well, aren't I always on the defence?
"My daughter watches all these slasher films...the killers always come back. Good work, Grayson."
"I'm out," Grayson admits, dropping the gun to the floor. "I'm done. I need a break."
"Medics are waiting for you. They'll check you out," Desario assures. "Where is everyone?"
I nod to Kellin and Reyna, who hug each other and talk quietly.
"And the others?" the sheriff inquires.
"Well, Grayson just walked out..."
"So everyone else is dead?" Desario asks.
"The partiers left when they caught wind of the killers. Ozzy, Makai, Maren, my mother, and Ezio were murdered," I report.
"Even...even my daughter?" the sheriff asks, eyes tearing up. "That can't be."
"Sir, I think we need to talk..."
