Getting To America

I ran back up the stairs to go and pack my stuff. I grabbed my bag from a shelf and unzipped it. I grabbed some of my best clothes and neatly folded them putting them in stacks in the small bag I had. I then grabbed my favourite toy. Well my only toy. It was a teddy bear with a small button eye and a large button eye. It was white, my favourite colour. My mother made it when I was 6 years old before she died. I gave the old teddy bear a quick hug before shoving it into the bag with the rest of the stuff. I also grabbed my hair comb which was cracked a little at the bottom. I eventually got word that the plane was leaving in 5 days.

5 days later

It was 5:40 in the morning. When I was excited I always woke up earlier than usual. I ran into the bathroom and brushed my black long hair and tied it into a Chinese ponytail. "Bye Father" I say bowing. Some strands of my hair fell loose when I bowed. "Study hard bring honour." He then replies. Those words rung in my head like a bell that wouldn't be quiet. I nodded my head fighting back the threat of tears. I did the same to my grandma and left for the airport which was very close to our small hutt.

When I finally made it to the plane I let out a small sigh. I took my first step inside. The scent smelt a lot better than the one at home. The chairs were cosier than usual and had a black and blue swirly design patterned on it. I finally got comfortable in my seat and took a breath to calm myself. I was excited when I woke up but now I felt a never ending amount of anxiety and my stomach started to get butterflies. One of the waitresses came by. Before she could say anything I just shook my head. I knew she would ask if I wanted any beverages or anything. How could I get a beverage? I was already ashamed I had wasted so much of my family's money on myself just to visit America for a few months. The lady gave a nasty look towards me and walked off to the next person. I was told by my grandma the flight would be just about 20 hours and I knew that I can't trust my sleepy self, so I laid my head down gently and closed my tired eyes. Sleep eventually found it's way to me.

When I woke up we had about 45 minutes left of the trip. I must have been knocked out for a while. I was pretty bored so I decided to do the math in my head of how long I was sleeping for. Math was my favourite subject. I often got bullied for it, but I didn't care because in China at least I had my friends who never bullied me. Me and my team were like a rebel crew, we were never truly alone.

45 minutes went by very slowly. Eventually the plane landed very smoothly on the ground. I was told that my exchange family was going to meet me outside of the plane and that their family name was Johnson. I could barely pronounce their family name which made me feel even more ashamed of myself. I didn't want to upset my family I would stay with for a few months. After a while of searching for the right name tag I eventually found the name tag Johnson. I ran up to the women with the name tag on. She had blonde hair that she wore nicely in a pixie cut. Her eyes were like a forest of green. So many shades of the one color in one small orb. "Hi were your exchange family" The man next to mrs Johnson says. I nodded my head and bowed. "Oh no need to do that honey." The women then spoke patting me on the shoulder. "Let me show you our house now." She offers. "Thank you, that's very kind" I say trying to sound as American as I can.
