~ Period 3 ~
------Xìnyì POV------
Me and Callie walked into our 3rd period. We had English. We were the first to enter class. "Wow the teachers not even here." Callie says. I nod my head and take a seat at my table. Callie on the other hand sits on the teachers chair. "Callie this teacher is the best she's so nice!" I whisper yell to her. "Really what's her name?" "Miss Saeteng." I reply. "Hmmm that name sounds Thai." Callie says rubbing her chin a little. "annd what are you doing up there?" I spin myself around to see miss Saeteng behind me. "Sorry." Callie says getting off the teachers seat and walking to her own. The teacher smiles. "Where is the rest of the class?" The teacher chuckles as she takes a seat preparing the lesson plan. "I don't know miss." I politely say. I then hear Callie mutter "Or in the lockers together." I let a silent chuckle slip when I hear this. Owen came in next and took a seat next to me. "Your late" I whisper to him. He let out a chuckle and placed something on my lap. I felt a cold rounded object. I raise my eyebrow... what was it. I placed it in my mini bag hanging on my chair. I will look at it at lunch. I smile at Owen and nod. He returns the warm smile. For a moment I got lost in his eyes. Analysing every colour that smudged into another... well he had black eyes so it was hard to tell the colours but you could still easily fall in love with them in an instant. "Ok Class you know what to do now please do your work." Miss Saeteng says. My eyes rip away from Owen's and face the teachers. I wasn't listening! And now the whole class was here as well! I do a mini face palm and look to see what everyone else is doing. Owen grabbed his laptop out and so did the rest of the class. I lean over a little to Owen. "What are we supposed to be doing?" I nervously ask. He let out a chuckle. "We have to write a persuasive text about stopping global warming and then present it." My eyes widen. I hate presenting things. "Thanks" I take out my laptop and start doing some research on global warming.
~ Time Skip ~
By the end of class I had all the information on the subject and the plot of my speech, I wasn't prepared to present though! 'Learn, bring honour to us Xìnyì' again my fathers words rung through my head. I take a breath. The thought of my home sent chills down my spine. I missed everyone. My best friend Lyn, my Grandma, my parents! I wonder what my dad was doing now? The thought of going back to China was also sad, I just met a best friend and possibly my first crush. I let a breath go. If only people here knew the struggle. No... what am I saying?! It's not struggle I should honour the chance of being in this wonderful nation. I shake my head of any more disgraceful thoughts and start walking to my fourth period. Callie was way ahead with Owen. Now I was going to be the late one for daydreaming. I finally made it to fourth period which was Music. We had a helper teacher there, i'm assuming for me since my English could still improve. I take a seat next to my friend. We sat on the floor during music. "Hello class." Mr. Tiko welcomes. "Hello Mr Tiko" everyone repeats. "Today I thought I would be nice and allow you to play an instrument and have some free time.... BUT you have to learn ONE song on the instrument then you may carry on to free time... also if you finish learning a song you must present it to me in a private room and then you may carry on with free time... any questions?" He says clicking the lid to his marker then undoing it again. "Yes mr Tiko." everyone says excitedly. Mr Tiko took a seat at his desk and everyone went for an instrument. Owen got a guitar, Callie decided to run straight to the drums, which she was surprisingly good at. I chose a Erhu. (an Erhu is like a Chinese Violin/Cello.) I ran my fingers over the two strings of my Erhu and allowed myself to enjoy the calming music it made. Music of all instruments echoed through the big empty room. I grabbed my laptop (which I was still borrowing from the school library.) and searched how to play a song. I found an album that was called Nanguan which is traditional Chinese folk songs. I had a look at the playlist and chose my song. It was pretty short which was what I needed. I started practicing the notes. I had never learnt Erhu so I had to watch some videos first. About 17 minutes later I had mastered the short piece and was ready to show Mr Tiko. I walk over to his desk. "uh sir i'm ready to show you the song." I shyly state. "Wonderful just go into one of the rooms and i'll be there shortly." he replies with a warm smile. I nod my head and make my way to the room. Callie had already preformed and sent me some links to help with song I was doing. When I walked into the room Owen was in there as well. I give a quick wave and take a seat. "So what song did you learn?" I ask. "You wouldn't know it, it's a Japanese love song." he replies. "oooh, sounds interesting" I reply nudging him a little. He let a chuckle slip. "What about you?" he then asks keeping the conversation alive. "You wouldn't know it, it's traditional Chinese folk." I reply. He nods. Soon after the music teacher came in. "Ok who would like to preform first." He asks. "I'll go." Owen says seeing my shyness. Owen readied his instrument. He must have gotten rid of the guitar because now it was a koto. He started playing his Japanese love song on the Koto. The gentle vibrations and rhythms put me at peace. He moved his hands in such a soft manner and plucked the strings with such passion. The song had an amazing tune and harmony to it. When Owen finished his song I couldn't help but do a clap. Owen did a small bow to joke around. "Very good Owen, are your ready Xìnyì?" How was I going to compare to what Owen did?! I take a breath and nod my head. I readied my Erhu and started to gently move the bow back and forth. This created a soft vibration in the room. I changed strings time to time and tried my hardest to move my fingers in the right direction but it was really hard. My friend back in China Lyn went to Erhu lessons for 2 years and she's good but not a professional yet! When I finished I heard Owen clap his hands. I nervously smile and feel my cheeks heat up. I decide to do a small curtsey and then leave the room to go and have free time with Callie.
