Chapter 8: Cooking

The metal doors from the second exam place began to open and we, the remaining examinees entered

"I'm Menchi the second phase examiner." A girl with green hair and a weird hairstyle said.

"And I'm Buhara, an examiner too" The huge man sitting behind her said. 

Not a minute after he said that, his rambling stomach can be heard.

"There you have it ... the second phase of the exam ... it's cooking !" Menchi announced, "We're gourmet hunters, so all of you will be whipping up foods to satisfy our palates"

Everyone was shocked upon hearing what the 2nd phase of the test is, well I kinda forgot but now I remembered.

"First, you'll make a dish for Buhara and if he passes you, then you'll be permitted to make one for me." Menchi added, "You'll pass the test when you satisfy the both of us, and also, once we have eaten our fill, the testing period will be over"

Murmurs filled the room.

Well, who would have thought that the 2nd phase will be cooking? It's totally unexpected.

"Now, my dish of choice is a whole roast pig!" Buhara rubs his stomach, "Any pig will do!"

After the announcement, everyone started to find a pig. 

"Hah! This shouldn't be too hard for us!" Leorio brags.

"Too easy..." Frisk nods.

"Catch a pig and roast... Seems simple enough!" Gon agrees.

"But we better hurry, his appetite isn't infinite after all" Kurapika reminded us.

"Oh hey, I can call Shino to look for the pigs" I whistled and a small bird appeared.

"Whoa!" The four of them looks surprised and I just smiled at them.

"Shino, find some pigs for us!" I told Shino

"Kyuu" Shino replied and she flies to the sky.

After a few seconds, she comes down and leads us to a place with many pigs.

The pigs were very huge! And also cute.

"It's been a long time since we fought together, wanna do it?" I placed my hand out and she turned into a scythe.

"That's so cool!" The four of them said simultaneously.

I jumped and using the blunt part of the scythe, I used it to hit the head of the pigs. In just a hit, the pig faints.

"Nice one!" Looks like Gon jumped in too, also catching a pig.

"Looks like you two found their weak spots!" Leorio began stretching his arm.

The three began hunting and we all came back together, roasting the pigs and giving them to the examiners. We passed Buhara's test so easily and the next part should be sushi, right?

While I was trying to remember what the next dish is, Buhara stopped eating after 70 roasted pigs. His stomach is so big.

"That's it, the roast pig round is over!" Manshi walks in front of us, "Be aware that, unlike Buhara, I can be a harsh critic! Now for the second part of the test, the dish will be sushi!"

Everyone was confused upon hearing the dish, except for the bald one.

I gathered the group and but looks like Frisk is still hesitating to come with us. I poked Gon in his back and pointed at Frisk and he replies with a smile, knowing what to do. 

"Come with us!" Gon said with a closed smile

"C-can I?" She looks at us.

"Of course!" We all answered.

We gathered around and began to guess what sushi is. Of course, I know what sushi is but I don't want to ruin their fun.

"So we need a fish from a lake or pond then!" Leorio states loudly.

"Quiet!" Kurapica told off Leorio but the other examinees already heard us.

We all raced to catch fish.

"Those dirty rats overheard us!" Leorio exclaimed.

We let out a sigh, 'Not with that megaphone voice of yours'

 After we caught our fishes we then went back to make sushi. I waited until the bald man yell out how to make sushi then I can try to make one, for now I will just enjoy what the gang will make.

Leorio comes first with his so-called "Leorio Special" and it was a bunch of live fish in a ball of rice. I can't help but laugh at the sight of it. Gon comes next and it was a live fish in a ball rice, which makes it even funnier. I watched the other contestants and boy, It truly is a sight. Imagine putting a live fish and a rice ball in a stick like a barbecue or putting rice inside the fish instead. Surprisingly, Hisoka comes forward with sushi, when did he learn to make it?

A thought suddenly hit me. Of course, I made sushi for him back in meteor city, I'm sure he watched me make them.

"Finally! A good one!" Manshi announced.

Hisoka walks back and looks at me with a smile. 

"He's looking at you again, Rei" Killua said, "Be careful, he's like me"

"Hmmm?" I gave him a look.

"Well to say, I'm not normal" His face turned into one of the smiles a killer makes.

"So am I" I gave him a closed smile.

I keep laughing out on the dishes until it was the bald's turn. Well, I think it's time. It took some time before the Manshi calmed down since the baldie pissed her off.

I tried to make sushi and passed it.

"This..." Manshi paused, "is disgusting!"

"EHHHH!" I was completely shocked hearing her say that.

Are you telling me that Hisoka makes better sushi than me!? I taught him one! Only once! And I always cooked for him!

I felt my soul leaving my body.

"Is it really that traumatizing?" Killua asks me all of a sudden.

"Well, I used to cook for my brother.." I let out a sigh, "And it was just sushi! A sushi! I failed at sushi! Then how about my cooking if I can't simply make a delicious sushi!"

I began my rant and before I knew it, the four of them are already listening to my rants. I felt the heat rising to my face.

"Eh-heh, sorry for rambling all of a sudden" I lowered my head.

"Doesn't matter, but I won't mind eating your cooking" Killua stated while looking away

"Me too!" Gon raised his hand.

"We don't mind too" Kurapica and Leorio nodded while Frisk silently raised his hand too.

"You guys..." I looked at them and gave them a smile. They sure are a bunch of good friends! But I wonder why they are looking away at me all of a sudden and their faces are red as well.

"Time to make sushi!" Frisk announced and the others agreed before I could ask them more.

"Hey! Don't suddenly change the topic--" They cut me off before I could say more.

"One sushi coming up!" The four of them announced and went to Manshi

"DISGUSTING!!" As usual, Manshi tasted their food and find it disgusting.
