Another morning on a warm late summer. I get out of bed and get ready for school like every day.
On my way to school many people want to talk to me and I mostly just go with it.
It's either my classmates or other students who know me from the studen council.
Arriving in class I put my bag next to the chair I'm sitting on and looked around.
Of course only three people are here.
I'm always a little early because of the responsibility I have as a class rep.
I look to the door and wait for other people to arrive in class as well.
I thought the girls will be next to arrive but instead I see Shinji peeking through the door and looking around.
"Ah, good morning Ikari!" I shout and wave him over giving him a smile.
"Morning." He greets me while sitting down slowly and taking out his notebook.
My curiosity takes over and I turn around to him.
"Say... How come you're so early?"
He looks at me just to look back down again: "I didn't know when school starts."
I give him a surprised look: "Didn't you get a timetable? Should I ask the teacher for one?"
Shinji stutters something I can't quite make up and the teacher enters the room.
"No, no please everything is fine I just forgot."
I forgot.
Something inside me doesn't believe those words.
But before I could ask anything else Shinji turns to the window and opens his notebook again starting to write something down.
I turn around and watch the door open and close as more people enter the classroom.
"Kaworu?"
The sudden sound of someone whispering my name make me stand up straight and look through the room.
I feel a soft tap on my shoulder and turn around to face Shinji once again.
"Did you call my name?" I smile and turn my body towards his desk.
"I'm sorry I just wanted to ask if you know how to get to the train station without having to walk by the bus station and possibly also walk around the school yard."
My eyes grow wide at his question. That was the first time he actually talked to me and this is what he asks me?
"Of course! I can go with you if that's okay."
Shinji looks down embarrassed: "Only if it's not a problem. I really don't want to bother you if you already walk home with someone."
I didn't want to walk with the assholes from my class anyway.
So bringing the new guy home would be a pretty good distraction.
"Oh it doesn't bother me at all! Actually I'd like to get to know you a little better."
Shinji looks away becoming unsure all of a sudden: "Alright. Well then thank you."
I give him a soft smile and turn around facing the teacher again.
After the bell rings I make my way to the exit to meet Shinji.
He's standing next to the door and talking with some guys from our class.
