'I swear I had work in my hands- or I'm not likely not to turn up, Billy.' said Darlence solemnly; caught in the corner yet again,' Now if you'd let me, I prefer to leave your highly entertaining company for the time being.'
'Oh! so you were busy were you?'thundered Billy,'Were you helping your brother in a case Miss Holmes?'
'Exactly that.'
Angrily, Willis shoved her towards the wall. That agitated her wound and she winced.
'Did that hurt now toughie?'he asked,'You said you were going to come for the competition, and you suggested it.'
'I assure you I had all intentions to turn up, but I had work to see to.'
'Prove it. Ha! Bet you can't!'
'As a matter of fact, I can.' she rolled up her right sleeve to reveal the wound, doctor had removed the bandage after the third day, saying free air would be better for it since every chance of a septic cut was over,' A bullet as you can well imagine. And now I hope you believe me don't you? I hardly lie about these things.'
Billy let her go,'I-I am sort of sorry.I had no idea you were shot.' then he composed himself,' But you still have to compete- in your own time.'
'I am sort of thankful.' Darlence grinned,'And believe me I too am looking forward to the competition.'
They left her there and she sighed, Talk of encountering rogues.'
She walked back to 221 B and went straight to her room, which was above Sherlock's. Looking for a missing book, her eyelids started feeling heavy.Surely a little nap of five minutes won't hurt her? But when she woke up it was dark. 'DAMN!' she jumped out of her chair and pulled out her drawer and started rummaging among the contents throwing them all around the room.
After about a few minutes, the drawer was empty of its contents, lying flat on the ground, Its contents strewn about without ceremony accompanied by a bagful of papers that covered the ground like leaves do in a forest. On one end was a stool and on it Darlence searching amongst the shelves up in the wall.
The stool disbalanced and she fell face first into the cushion of papers. That did not really bother her as she got up and started searching the desk toppling over the pot of ink, her brother had got for her on her demand. Colouring up her right foot in deep blue hue. A piece of thick rope that she did not know existed in her room tripped her over again. And her face became half bluish with the ink.
'Can't a thing be found in peace in this room?' She asked finally tumbling out, going down the stairs.
She knocked on the door.
'Come in!' said a voice merrily.
'Oh good Dr.Watson is here as well!' she pushed the door open and began-,' Do you have any idea, where my encyclopaedia is? The one with the secret societies? Hi Dr. Watson- how's little Petronella [(A/N):John's recently born daughter] ? So-Sherlock?' she trailed off uncertainly.
Sherlock and John were on the sofa playing that blasted game again, with sticky pads on their foreheads, they were grinning like idiots.
'Not again!' she murmured to herself,'This is what happens to one of the greatest minds, and his friend when drunk.'
'Darlence! Want to play?'asked Sherlock loudly.
'No I am fine here. How many did you have?'
'How many?' Sherlock scratched his head,'Did you count Watson?'
The doctor seemed to have some difficulty in trying to stop his laughter,' Watson? Only Dacey calls me that.'
'What about a new case Sherlock?'asked Dace.
'New case?Don't lie Dace.'said Sherlock.
'How did you know?'
'I know your lies even when I am drunk.'
'Outright honest of you to accept your condition.'
'I did nothing of the sort.'
'Look at your Face Dace!'said John,'Oh! That rhymed! Face Dace, Facey Dacey, Dace Face.Little Dace with an inky face.'
'Said that she could ace the race.' Sherlock joined in merrily.
'Am I supposed to laugh or cry?' asked Darlence.'I'll put that up on your blog and- SHERLOCK!'
He was presently taking one of those bottles of blue window cleaners, plugging out the cap- clearly planning to drink it down. Darlence snatched it from him. And in an attempt to get it back, Sherlock hit out a blow on her face.
'I wanted to taste that!' said Sherlock trying to snatch it. John giggled in his seat like a kid. Darlence skipped towards the door,'Mrs Hudson! Please can you come here?'
'Yes dear?' asked The elderly landlady.
Darlence handed over the bottle of the fluid,'Please keep this away. Or Sherlock will swill it down before you can say "Holmes". And don't come here please.'
"Take care o' them, for me' said Mrs Hudson.
'It seems I haven't got much of an option.'
'It looked so good, like blue lime water!' moaned Sherlock.
'It tastes nothing like blue lime water. Don't be a fool.'
'How d'you know? Had you tasted it.'
'My word, I can swear you are feeling sleepy!'
'That was not an answer to my question.'
Darlence sighed,'Yes.' that seemed to be the only answer to convince Sherlock.
'Not fair, you get to taste it, and I don't?'
'Too bad big brother-but Mrs Hudson has taken it downstairs.'
'Look at John, He's pretending to be asleep. Stop pretending John!'
'He is asleep goof.' said Darlence getting up,'And come on I'll tuck you in as well.'
Just as suddenly, a sort of scream echoed around the house.
'What in heaven's name was that?' John asked getting up with a leap like that of a mountain goat.
'Nothing to worry.' said Darlence after a moment, her hand on her heart (or where she thought her heart was),' Mrs. Hudson has just come across my room......'
There was a sound of someone storming down the stairs and not bothering to mutter,' I HAVE A HOUSE FULL OF APES!'
'Half a mo'. Excuse me.' said Darlence going after the voice apologetically.
