Chapter 27
Once the Holidaze calmed, which was five days after the storm began, Mia and Cupid returned to work. They moved from the bed, that Cupid had once not dared to look at, into their office area in slow, languid movements.
Contentment and adoration surrounded them both, which filled the air with the most divine love. Neither Mia nor Cupid could take a few steps without offering the other a goofy smile.
It had been the most pleasant days that Mia could ever recall spending with one person. If Mia hadn't known she was in love with Cupid before the magical suction, she did now. There was something so joyous about him. Finding herself trapped in the cottage with Cupid had given her plenty of time to discover things about him while he found out about her.
The moment Mia opened the front door, harp song began to play. Cherubs filled the air, all smiling with the same contentment that spiralled through Mia.
"I guess you guys are happy, huh?" Mia asked and the cherubs nodded eagerly. "Did your tree suffer any damage from that crazy storm?" this time the cherubs shook their heads in unison.
"Work time," Cupid said as he came up behind her and nuzzled her neck.
"Hmmm, I know it's definitely work time. Let's see who we can offer love to today," Mia agreed as she sidled up next to Cupid.
"This was the next couple from last week," Cupid handed her the paperwork.
"Looks like a perfect match," Mia said as she perused both the notes and the Match-a-Matic.
She went to spread her wings and reached for Cupid's hand when a noise outside stopped her. A loud knock upon the open front door showed Meri with a curious expression on her face.
"Hey, Meri," Mia waved and smiled at her friend.
"Hey, Mia. Things have certainly changed here," Meri gestured to outside with a wave of her hand and then to where Mia clasped hold of Cupid's hand in an open display of affection.
"Just a bit, I guess," Mia answered sheepishly.
"Hello, Meri," Cupid said.
Meri smiled at the God of Love, "I just wanted to make sure that you survived the other end result of a magical suction. You've never had to endure one on this side before," Meri said as she turned to Mia.
"All good here," Mia assured her as she grinned at her friend, whose eyebrows rose to the sky.
"It certainly looks like it. Are you telling me that you're okay with being the Goddess of Love now?"
"Yep, I can't keep fighting reality and I know there's no going back to my life in the human dimension," Mia admitted as she quickly glanced at Cupid and couldn't hide her dopey grin.
"I see," Meri smirked.
"We've got to get to work," Cupid interrupted.
"Oh, I'm sure you do. Now I'm wondering what you got up to when the magical suction weather had you trapped here," Meri tapped her chin with her cheeky grin only broadening.
"We've got to give love out to the world, Meri, so as much as I would love to keep chatting, I can't," Mia gave her friend a subtle look at the exit for the Holidaze.
"You just said that without an ounce of sarcasm," Meri remarked.
"So?"
"Go and do your job, Goddess of Love, but the moment you get back we're having a chat," Meri pointed her finger from herself to Mia.
