Chapter 15
After pouring over the charts together for many hours, both Mia and Cupid agreed on the next candidate. His name was Jonah, and he was one of the last ones who lived within her area. They had missed him on previous searches, and neither of them knew how that had occurred.
Cupid insisted on staying nearby during the date. At least this time, he had the decency to tell Mia about it first.
By the middle of the date, Mia had started rolling her eyes at how conceited this man was. Cupid noticed her annoyance, and instead of finding it annoying or humorous, he winced. When had he started feeling sorry for this frustrating human woman?
He heard a crack and allowed his eyes to fly back towards where he had tried to avoid looking at her. Mia stood over the man named Jonah, who clutched at his cheek from where she had struck him and had started yelling at him. Cupid came to her defence in an instant. He found himself marching into the restaurant and eyeing the man with distaste.
"Don't make assumptions!" Mia snapped and the man floundered with how to answer. "I work! I actually own a wedding planner business. The last thing I need is a snob like you paying my way and thinking I can't survive on my own."
Mia threw a few bills on the table to cover the price of her meal. Then with a click of her heels, she grabbed her handbag and strode towards Cupid.
"I'm going to see you arrested for your attack on me," the man exclaimed, and Mia paused.
"You touched my thigh inappropriately, so I can return the favour," Mia said sweetly before continuing to walk away.
"What an arrogant twat," Cupid took the words right out of Mia's mouth.
"Yep, this choosing stuff just keeps getting harder," Mia replied.
"C'mon, I know a good place for nachos and margaritas to take away your misery," Cupid grasped hold of her hand and spun her around. "You know you want it," he raised his brows suggestively and Mia laughed.
"Fine, I need a lot of cheering up after that disaster," she pointed her thumb at the restaurant.
"You didn't even get past the bread before giving him the flick. Is that a new record?" Cupid teased.
"I think we're getting worse at choosing."
"We need to go further afield. You might have to date someone from another country."
Mia considered this as Cupid led her down the street. She knew from looking over the many choices of men that the local variety were running out. Maybe she had to go further afield. It wasn't what she wanted but it would have to be the only solution.
"All that travel time and the expense of it all," Mia grumbled.
"You've got instant travel right here," Cupid pointed to himself.
"Are you saying you don't mind helping me?"
"Not at the moment."
Cupid mused over his words. Why was he now willing to work with this woman? What had changed? He wasn't sure if it was her knowing more information on him or whether they had officially called a truce. The one thing that bothered him was when he realised that he enjoyed spending time with her. It wouldn't do to form attachments to humans, and he had learnt that a long time ago.
"Are you promising me that you'll take me to meet these agreed upon men?" Mia asked.
"Yes."
"No matter where they live in the world?"
