The night air is warm from all the body heat surrounding the packed docks. Stars are not out on this night. Steam spills out of tall tubes like a chimney on top of many big transport ships. Men and women from different countries must have decided that New Orleans would be a great place to settle. They flood these sacred streets in diverse hoards. I fear what will happen once the overall population increased to where we must leave permanently.
"Why did you suggest a walk when all of this nonsense is happening?" Lestat threw his walking cane in the air out of frustration earning a sly chuckle from Claudia.
I wasn't smiling at his childish act at all.
Louis sighed deeply before saying, "Well I thought it would have been nice since we've huddled in the flat for months now."
I can't help but nod my head in agreement.
Being inside for so long reminded me of when I used to live back with Papa. I learned a few weeks of living back in our home that Papa had died from a heart attack.
Truth be told, I didn't react as one would expect when Lestat broke the news to me. No tears were spilled, and no cries of pain came to pass, I just felt numb for a while. Yes, he was my father, flesh and horrid blood but I hadn't contained any good feelings for him since I was a small child.
That man stopped being my father the moment he decided that I was worth nothing. And it only got worse the older I grew. How was I even supposed to feel about his miserable passing? I shall never know.
"Please calm yourself my darling, we wouldn't want to give anyone the wrong impression now," I say while gripping his arm tight to prevent him from harming anyone with the cane.
The tall blonde vampire in a perfect shade of purple looked down at me. Those sinister eyes glint with such powerful annoyance that I believe his top hat will explode away.
"Can we at least stroll in an area with few people around?" He huffed before rolling his eyes. My poor man just can't seem to be calm these days
"Watch that mouth of yours, dearest Sweet." He bent down to my ear. A cold sensation slithered around my neck and down my spine. I'm sure goosebumps are flaring all over my skin. I take this as a good sign not to speak anymore.
A massive grin flushed on his lips, giving me an excellent view of his sharp white pointed teeth. My stomach flutters madly.
"Hmm, how about we show our Claudia where the poor life is," Lestat announced before pulling me off in the direction of small and broken shacks leading away from all the clatter.
I turn and see that my other family members are hot on our trail. Louis has a most concerned expression on his face which I mirror. Claudia seems to be just her bright self only with heightened skips in her steps, dragging the brunette vampire along.
