In the middle of the night, your head melted to the pillows while your eye kept focus to the spinning fan. Meanwhile, your hands kept the leather notebook close to your chest while the clock ticks. You never believed one promise he said, I never read it, you knew he did. You would believe it, maybe, if he wasn't titled the 'God of mischief and lies'
You had a theory for it all, "He probably cleaned my office to distract me from the notebook," You let our a humorless chuff of laughter, "And it worked."
You couldn't sleep, and even if you did it only brought something awful. Some blatant flashbacks you didn't want, and never asked for. You convinced yourself it was all in the past, and it didn't define you now, but half the things you tell yourself you couldn't believe.
Your eyebrows rose when you heard a short noise outside. You assumed it was Loki headed to find another way to escape, but this late at night? Last time, you kept awake to see how long he would take to give up. He didn't last long when searching.
Meanwhile, Loki lit a small flame by the fireplace. He knew you were awake. By the time he could sit down by the fire, he heard your footsteps near.
"What are you doing now?" Your voice rang through the hallways with an echoe. The only sound around was the soft wind and the cracking fire.
"Trying to get warm."
"You're Jotun," You sat by him, "I thought it was impossible to get warm," You could see a clear view of his face. His patterns looked mesmerizing, you couldn't help but stare.
"You researched about me?" He inquired, his red eyes meeting your normal ones.
"I needed to. Jane and I were interested in the topic so we went overboard and went through almost each mythology..Mostly because she wanted to know Thor some more."
"Of course. Thor and his stupid mortal."
"I always thought they were a cute couple based on their dynamic," You shrugged, watching the fire. It looked as if it was dancing, you watched in awe.
"No, you support Jane because she's close to you," Loki poked your shoulder, making you roll your eyes, "I've seen him with others who had more chemistry with he."
"Pray tell."
"Lady Sif,"
"Isn't she Thor's wife in Norse mythology?" You inquired.
"They should be, honestly," He rolled his eyes, "They're too stubborn to ever try and advance on each other. Their excuse were always, 'I value my independence too much,"" He mocked their voices.
"Well, maybe we need to be Cupid for a while and change that," You sounded a laugh, making him smile. Woah, has he ever smiled before? This was the first time you've ever seen him smile. Genuinely.
"Won't that hurt your little scientist's heart."
"I honestly don't think she's in love with him," Loki tilted his head, "I feel like it's impossible. She can't fall in love that quickly that's for sure."
"What are you implying?"
"I think she mistakes love for the need to research him. I mean- I've never seen her in love yet so I'm not sure," You rambled, "All I'm saying is that all I want to do is protect that heart of hers."
"You seem to like her a lot.."
"I like her a little too much," You laughed.
"Love, perhaps?"
"Oh, no. Admire her," You correct, "She's always been a role model to me. She perseveres, she's brave, I look up to her in some way."
"She's also beautiful."
"She's also taken," You poked his nose, making him crinkle it right after, "Though, I do agree. She's beautiful."
For a minute, silence engulfs the room. The eye contact almost made you shift in your spot. It gave you the time to memorize his patterns, seeing how his eyes memorized your face as well.
"Do you admire anyone else?" Loki inquired, "I want to know more about you."
"I guess..I admire you in some way."
His cheeks turned red at that. Loki stifled a smile, "Why so?"
"I thought your patterns looked nice. Disregarding what you did to New York, I think you would be an attractive man."
"Is that the only thing stopping me from being attractive?" Loki raised a brow, positions changed over time. Now, your chin rests on your knee. Deep in conversation with him. While his body was turned towards you.
"Well, yeah. Maybe if you weren't a murderer."
He frowned, taking a pause before replying, "I never wanted to be."
"Pardon?"
"Apologies, but I think we should rest," Loki stood up abruptly, "It's best, we have a big day ahead and.."
You took his hand, "Come on, we were so deep in conversation and you're leaving me just like that?"
He sighed, sitting down once again.
"What's troubling you?"
"What do you do when you're accused of something you were pressured to do, asking for a friend," Loki sarcastically adds the last sentence, getting your lips to curve into a small smile. Was he joking?
"That sounds oddly specific."
"Happens way more than you think."
"Tell someone you trust."
"What if I don't have anyone to trust?" Your eyes drop to the floor, thinking. Both your voices were hushed, trying to be as gentle as you can.
Though, why?
You confused yourself more each day.
"Then you can start with me," Your hand reached for his, giving him a slight squeeze.
"Even with what I did with your home?" Loki inquired, his jaw almost falling down like someone removed its screw.
"Well- That I dont forgive you with," His head tilts side to side in agreement, "But, take out your morally good side, and we're good."
He smiled, "Thank you."
