Chapter 5

Luke:

As were driving or more like speeding everyone is trying to call someone.
"Chris, it's an emergency, man. Call me right back." Travis said through his phone
"Baby, call me back. Call me back right away." Madison said through her phone
"Try the house" Travis told her
"Yeah" Maddy said
While this is happening, Nick is changing stations on the radio until Travis told him to stop.
"No one's talking about this. No one's saying anything." Nick said
"We need to get away from the city. We need to get away from people. Just get Alicia, Emma and The kiddos, Liza, and Chris and just go until we know what this thing is." Travis said
"Madison, Travis, Emma and I are heading to the desert. We were gonna come and get you later but since y'all know about it now, come with us." I told them
"Yeah. We'll come with you. We'll be safe there." Travis said
Suddenly the phone goes off. Maddy immediately answers
"Alicia, where the hell are you?" She said
"Mom." Alicia said
"Listen we got Nick. We're coming to get you. I need you to pack some things for us, load up some groceries, okay?" Madison told her
"No, I can't." Alicia said
"Why? What's wrong?" Madison said back
"He's sick. He's really sick." Alicia said in the phone worried about the person
"Who? Who's sick?" Madison asked
"Matt. His fevers, like, 103. I tried to get him in the bath, but it hurts, when I touch him." Alicia said
"Don't... Don't touch him. I need you to call 9-1-1." Maddy said to her
"I tried. It--its busy. His parents are in Vegas. They're not picking up." She said
"Okay, we're coming to get you, but just stay away from Matt until we get there, Okay?" Madison told her before the phone went off
"We're 10 minutes" Travis told her

As we were speeding to get to Matt's, I called Emma.
Phone ringing.
"Hey, babe. Did you find Nick?" She immediately asked
"Yeah, we found him. I need you to listen to me. I need you to hook the trailer to the truck and put the rest of our stuff in there. Okay?" I told her
"Okay, I will. Why?" She asked
"It's more serious than we thought. Your  mom, Nick, and Travis know about the virus but not all of it... Babe I saw one of them. Shoot it in it's head no hesitation. Just like when you were in the military, okay. Keep the kids safe." I told her
"Okay. I will. You know I will. Are you on your way home?" She asked me
"Yeah we are just getting Alicia and then going home. Your mom and them are coming to the desert with us, okay." I told her
"Okay. I was gonna have them come anyways. Babe just stay with my mom and them. I will get everything prepared here and then drive to my moms, so we can leave together." She told me
"Okay. Be safe and be fast. See you soon." I told her
Phone call ends

We finally made it to Matt's. We went into the house and searched for Matt's room. Finally we found it.
"Alicia move away from him." Madison told her
"What's wrong with you?" Alicia said
"People are getting sick. It could be contagious." She said back
"If he has it. I have it." She said to her
"Alicia,can I talk to him? Please?" Travis asked her
"Hey, Matt. Where are your folks?" He asked him
"They should be home soon." Matt said
"They're driving home today." Alicia pitched in
"When did this start?" I asked
"He was supposed to meet me at the beach yesterday... and never showed up." Alicia said
"Here we go" Travis said before seeing the cup empty
"Alicia, would--would you?" He asked handing the cup to her
When she leaves I moved Travis and started looking for bites. Finally I moved his shirt and saw it.
"What are you doing? Is that a bite?" Maddy asked
"Yeah" Matt told her
"Is that how it happens?" She asked
"Yeah. It's either a bite from one of them or if you die a regular death you come back as one of them." I told her
" What are you talking about?" Alicia asked walking in the room
"I'm gonna call 9-1-1 from the car." Maddy told her
"Okay. I'll wait for them here." She told her
"No go outside." Maddy told Alicia
"Mom." Alicia said
"Don't do this." Maddy demanded
"What the hell are you doing? Are you psychotic?" Alicia asked
"Alicia." Matt suddenly said
"He's sick." She told her mom again
"It's okay. It's okay." Travis told her
"You want some water?" Alicia asked Matt who shakes his head no
"Listen to me. My parents will be home soon. You know I'll be fine. You know that." He told her
"No, I'm not leaving you. I love you." She told him
"I love you too. That's why you gotta go. Okay. You gotta go. Go." Matt said
She hugs him before leaving
"Thank you." Maddy told Matt
"Hey you guys go on ahead. I got to talk to Matt." I told them
We leave the house and go home. When we get there I see the truck there and immediately know that Emma and the kids are here. As we get out of the truck the kids come running out tackling me in a hug.
"Daddy!" They yelled out
"Hi, babies. Come on let's go inside." I told them
We went inside and I see Emma there waiting for us.

As we get the kids settled in, I have never been so glad to live 2 blocks down from the in laws, in case we needed to make quick run for more supplies. Emma and I moved to the kitchen where we see Travis and Madison talking.

"Damn it. No one's answering. No Liza, no Chris. He's pushing my calls." Travis said
"Did you try Liza at her house?" Emma asked
"Of course I tried the house, Emma. Of course I did." He told her
"Okay, go. Travis, go get them now." Maddy said

We go outside and Travis washes the blood off the car.

"Call me if your gonna be longer." Maddy told him
"If I am longer, go without me. I'll catch up." He said back to us
"No." Maddy told him immediately
"Mom don't worry I'll go with him. I know more than he does and I can keep us safe." Emma told her
"What no, Emma. Why?" I asked
"Because there is a better chance for him to come back alive with me there. Okay, trust me. I know what I'm doing." She told me
"Okay, but come back in one piece." I told her
"I will. Promise." She said
"Mija, are you sure?" Madison asked her
"Yes, mom this way we will get back faster." She told her
"Okay, be safe. I love you." Maddy told her
"I love you too, mom." Emma said

As we see Travis and Emma leaving Maddy and I walk in the house.
