Chapter 15

Emma:

It's been a day since we've been on the boat. I'm 1 day from being 32 weeks pregnant and only have 8 weeks left. The kids are really excited. As we all got up the girls would race to the top of the boat and play different games every day. It's a good thing Luke is all muscle and can carry all our bags and the girls without breaking a sweat. Cameron being a 'teenager' his word not mine didn't want to play with the girls and asked me to fix the electrical circuit on the boat for him to use his electronics. Me being the great mother I am, did. Finally, all the kids were situated, Luke and I went and talked with the adults.

We saw Strand moving around with mom asking questions.
"How far can it take us?" Mom asked
"3,000 miles, but with your daughter working on the wiring down there. We can go 4,000 miles maybe more if we are careful with the engine." He said coming up to me
"You my girl are a genius." He said to me before going up deck again.
"We can survive on the Abigail for quite some time, especially if Emma and Luke continue improving the boat." He said
"We'll help in any way we can." I said
With Luke nodding his head

As we watched the sea, we saw some people yelling for help. Mom started going up to Strand. I followed
"Strand, stop the boat." Mom said
"That's funny." He said
"There are people out there they we can help. They'll drown." Mom said
"Mom, no. They may need help, but what will we do. We don't have the space or food for all of us. Plus, what if one of them is infected. Mom, I know you want to help everyone, but you have to think of Nick and Alicia. Of your grandkids. This is survival." I said
"She's right Madison. We can't nor will I stop." Strand said

As he said that he sped the boat up. Mom left while I stayed
"I'm surprised you are able to make these decisions." I said
"I'm surprised yet not surprised your related to Nick." He retorted
"Why?" I asked
"Nick is strong-minded. He does whatever he wants but you... You are intellectual. You think of the consequences, but one thing that I noticed between you Clarke's are that you all are survivalist." He said
"You're not so bad, Strand" I said
"Same could be said for you, Emma." He said
I walked away, leaving him alone.

As I reached the second deck, the girls came up to me.

"Mommy, can we go play with Strand?" They asked

"Why don't you go ask him." I said as they ran to the top with monopoly in hand. I followed them from behind and gave Strand a look that was 'if you say no, I'll kill you'. It seemed to work because he said yes. As the girls played the game with him, I went to Cam and Luke.

"Hey babe, Cam." I said as Luke helped me sit down.
"What are we playing?" I asked                  "Uno!" Cam said as he passed out the cards. We played for a while until Cam left to go play with his switch. Luke helped me up and we went and grabbed the girls for their nap. 

"Vannie, Ronnie, Livy, let's go. Thank you, Strand" I said as we walked away. They yawned as we walked back to the room. I grabbed Olivia and put her to sleep as Luke did the same with the twins. after they fell asleep, we went up to the deck and had the funeral for Liza.

"You all knew Liza long enough to see what kind of person she was, how devoted she was to her family. She loved to help people. She would help anyone, and she did. She was selfless, you know. She just would give from her heart. And she could be fierce. Oh my god, she was so strong, and it was painful sometimes. And the best thing we ever did together was our son...who she loved more than anything or anyone." Travis said

I couldn't help but feel sad, even though I didn't know her long. I mourned for Travis and Chris who lost someone who was truly special to them. I focused back on the funeral to see Chris toss her body in the ocean. After Travis followed him, Luke and I went below deck and took a nap. after our nap, which was only an hour, we went on deck to see Alicia rush up. 

"Travis. Travis someone needs help. they're sinking." She said                          "Who?" He asked                                        "Look, it's just him, his brother, and his sister-in-law. Just three. We can manage that." She said   
"what's this?" mom asked her                    "Jack. His name is Jack." She said              "Alicia, tell me you did not tell them where we are." I said but before she could answer Strand came in.                                                                                                                                                                        "Who the hell is Jack?" he asked but she didn't answer
"You gonna make me ask twice?" he said "He's on a fishing boat near here and he's sinking" She said                                  "You talked to him?" he asked                    "Yes, I talked to him." she said                    "Alicia, did you tell him anything about us?" I asked as she looked at me                "I--no, I didn't tell him anything important." She said                                    "What didn't you say, Alicia? What didn't you tell him about us?" Strand yelled at her                         
"lower your voice when speaking to her." I told him                                             

As I said that he walked away heading to the control room                                      "Alicia, I get that you were trying to help, but you need to understand that people on land and the sea are no different. So, please next time don't talk to anyone on the radio." I said, walking away from them with Luke. A couple hours later, mom came and got us for dinner. We woke up the kids and went up deck to have dinner. 

We got to the table, and I grabbed all the kids' plates and served them. Starting with Olivia, then the twins, to Cameron, and finally Luke and myself. As we are eating, we hear a splash.

"Stay here." Luke told us as he ran to see what happened                                              "Okay. Let's finish our food." I said. We continued eating until I heard yelling.    "Cameron, take the girls to the room and stay there." I said as I went outside to see zombies.       
"What happened?" I asked Luke              "Nick jumped in the water and he's over there in the wreck." Luke explained. I looked at the mess until Strand came down.

"We should be leaving now. Someone's joining us." He said                                      "It could be no one. Or it could be whoever did this." he continued                As soon as I saw Nick get on the raft with Travis and Chris, I went up deck with mom.

"Travis has Nick. they're coming back." Mom told him                                                "Good, but this boat's gonna be on us. they're doing a good 25 knots. They're flying." Strand said                                        "How fast can we go?" Mom asked                                                                                      "Full out, 20. But that'll work the engines too hard. We need a head start." he said                               
"Umm...actually the boat can go at least 23 knots. With the work Luke did, he made it to where the engine won't be strain with a full throttle. It might need some touch up later, but we should be good to go a little faster." I told him                                                                                    "Emma, have I told you how much I love you and your husband." he said as mom went downstairs to check on them 

"Strand we're clear!" She yelled as he started the boat and went off.
