Carl's pov
It felt like hours although it had only been a few minutes. I looked around behind the ledge we were hiding under. Just another roof that leads to the other side of the prison. The side we hadn't cleared yet. I clutched Charlie's waist longing for her to be safe. The herd was making its way into the prison and we couldn't do anything about it.
Yes! I always kept a small pocket knife with me.
"What's that going to do??" Charlie whispered as she looked at the other side of the prison. It had about a dozen walkers that we wouldn't be able to clear with my small knife.
"If we get ahold of a gun, maybe the officers? We could take them down. And we can help warm them about the walkers coming towards them." I explained to Charlie. She looked at me like I was crazy, but aren't we all?
"So how do we get to one of the officer- walker things without drawing all of them in?" She questioned my tactics. I didn't want to admit that I wanted to keep her safe.
"I'll go down there and grab that one." I pointed to a cop who have a gun strap.
"You draw the other towards you by making a lot of noise on the rooftop." I explained. She raised her eyebrows.
"No Carl, I'll go," She said as she removed my hand from her waist, I forgot it was there, almost like it was a perfect fit.
"No Charlie, it's not up for debate. I'm going and that's final." I was cut off by her snatching the knife and jumping from the roof to the other one.
The walkers heard her jump onto the roof closest to them.
Quickly, I started banging on the wall, I prayed that whatever god we had left would protect her.
She grabbed ahold of the walker I pointed out and stabbed him in head, luckily this one was covered in the armour. A walker headed towards Charlie, not being fooled by the noises I was making. I jumped down to the floor, I caught the attention of multiple walkers and quickly I grabbed the closest thing near me. Unluckily, it was a half a chair. I threw it at the walker nearest to me and grabbed it after it died. I shoved the dead walker towards the other one who's attention I had drawn.
Shots rang out and I knew Charlie had got ahold of the gun.
"Carl! Carl!!" Charlie's yelled for me. I looked over at her frantically hoping that a walker hadn't gotten her. She threw my knife back at me and pointed to the fast walker in armour. It charged at me as I felt for the knife. I closed my eyes as it was jarring it's mouth open and the knife had slid from my fingers.
