Every time someone walked past the door to the bathrooms, Tylers' head would shoot in that direction, either waiting for someone to try and come in or for a hail of bullets; Emily wasn't sure.
"Jack is going to be okay." Emily wasn't sure if she was reassuring herself or Tyler, but she needed to reassure at least one of them.
She hadn't really spoken to Jack much when she was at Mark's house, but he always seemed pleasant with her, enough for her to consider them in the early stages of friendship.
"Is everything going okay with you? You're at least safe where you are?" Emily looked up into Tyler's eyes at his question. There was so much emotion hidden behind his eyes and she wasn't sure if it was for her or Jack, but it was appreciated either way.
"I don't know if safe is the right word, but for now I think I'll be okay." Tyler nodded, hand shoving quickly into his pocket as his phone began to ring. Mark's caller ID showing up on the screen.
"Yeah... Okay.... I'm on my way." Short and sweet. "I have to go, Mark's devising a plan, and someone has to make sure that he doesn't go nuclear." Emily nodded, her expression dropping. Everything with Tyler today had been so brief and so fleeting that she was trying to cling onto the small seconds that they had with each other.
She wasn't sure if it was the safety she felt when she was with him that she was desperately trying to cling on to or whether it was Tyler himself, but either way she needed these precious brief moments. "I'll be in contact soon, okay?" Emily knew it was a rhetorical question, but she nodded anyway. He pulled her into one last hug before letting her go. Their gazes lingered briefly on one another before he unlocked the door and walked away. Emily stood there for a moment, running and hand through her hair before exiting herself, walking back to the table to find Felix still sitting at the table, his coffee nearly empty.
"You talk about what you needed to?" Felix asked, smiling as a waitress brought over two burgers, setting them down in front of the pair before walking off again to the shouting chef. "I took the liberty; I knew you were hungry." Emily nodded and picked up a fry from her plate, nibbling on the tip whilst staring at the table in front of her.
"What's in the basement." She finally asked after a moment of silence between the pair. She wanted to talk about what had happened with Jack and the rest of the team, but she knew she couldn't dwell on it, but she needed answers about that damn bookcase.
"I'm not sure, I've never been down there. Mathias tends to keep a close eye on it." Felix shrugged, taking a large bite of his burger.
"It's been bugging me," Emily finally took a bite from her fry. "When I was down there with him earlier, there was this old bookshelf, and there was only one book on there that didn't have any dust on it. When I walked over to it, his whole body language changed, like he was nervous that I was over there." Felix looked up from the table, but he looked just as confused as Emily was.
"He's going to keep you monitored whilst you're down there for a while. I don't know if you're going to be able to figure it out just yet." Emily knew that felix was right, there was just something about it that was bugging her.
The uneasy feeling didn't leave her even when she and Felix arrived back at the compound. She headed straight for her room.
The sun was beginning the set, the orange glow of the sky bounced into her room, sweeping across the floor where she was now pacing.
She had no way to contact Tyler, no way to contact anyone at the compound to try and get information about the rest of them were doing, nor how Jack was doing.
She pulled her phone from her pocket, punching in a number and hesitating before hitting dial and walking into the bathroom, turning on the tap to mask the sound of her talking.
"Em? Oh My God are you okay? I was so worried after the last time you called!" The worried voice of Victoria echoed through the other side of the phone. "Are by a river why the hell can I hear running water?"
"Vic, I don't have a lot of time, much like last time, I need your help. If at any point I'm on the phone with you and I start talking about a shipment I need you to go along with it." She didn't need to wait for Victoria's agreement before the next question left her lips. "And I need you to call a number for me, get in contact with them, tell them who you are and just be my in between okay?"
"Em, you know I'd do anything for you. Shipments? It must be something horrible if you're talking about that, but I'll have your back. But this number? Is it safe? Why can't you talk to them?"
"Vic, I'm somewhere I really shouldn't be, but there's some stuff going on that I need to be kept in the loop about and I can't do that whilst I'm here so I need you to do it for me." There was a long pause on the other end of the line before she heard Victoria sigh before finally agreeing.
She hung up not long after, saying a quick goodbye, before texting Victoria Tyler's number. She knew that she was risking everything, but she needed to know. She needed to know if he was safe.
She changed Victoria's name in her phone to something random, hoping that no one would think about it if she was asked. She didn't want Victoria being swept up in all of her madness.
With a final sigh, she switched off the tap, jumped in the shower before finally climbing into bed. With her mind racing she stared up at the now dark ceiling. Tomorrow, I need to find out what's up with that damn basement.

I know it's been a while and I'm sorry about that, things get in the way. I'm also sorry if this chapter sucks it's 11pm, I have a headache but I just had a sudden urge to write and this is the first thing that came to me.
Hopefully soon we get to find out what's with the basement and why Mathias was so squirmy!
As usual, leave a vote or a comment if you're enjoying it! ~Gemma
