Stacie saw a flicker of a light slightly high up.
"Wait, stop!" She pointed to where it came from.
"Look, what's that?"
Beca's instinct to check out the old car park was right. Whether it was them in there or not, there was someone in there. It wasn't a bright light, but it was a light. Grabbing her phone, Aubrey texted Jessica warning her that they saw a light.
The old car park had to be at least seven floors high not including if it had an underground part. It was shuttered at the bottom so no cars could get in or not, but it was rusted meaning it had been closed for a number of years. It was an open car park, so it made it easier looking for light, unless you were walking right in the centre of the car park. Both Aubrey and Stacie kept an eye out together on either side of they saw anything. It was quiet. They'd been looking constantly to see if they saw anything else, they didn't.
"Maybe it was a reflection of something? We've not seen anything else?" Aubrey asked.
"Let's just give it a few more minutes. We don't know plus they've got to be nearly there."
"Yeah, true, alright. Let's just wait to see if Jess says anything."
As the other pair got closer to the car park, they couldn't hear anything. Even they assumed it might've been a reflection from the car or something. Going round the side, they were very quiet. Beca saw that a door was open and pointed it out to Jessica, who then responded by putting her left hand to her mouth indicating to stay quiet. They weren't sure themselves if anyone was in there.
Jessica was the first one to step in. She slowly entered the old metal building right foot first and checked behind the door. It was clear. She kept the same pace up and just slowly looked up towards the very top of the building. Surely if someone was here, she would hear voices. It's an old building it would echo. Looking back at Beca, she put a thumb up but raised her hand down. Neither of them wanted to risk it if there was someone there. They wanted to stay as silent as possible.
Beca entered slowly following Jessica's exact moves. Both of them had their guns at the ready, ready for anything.
Jessica ushered Beca close to her and whispered at quietly as she could. "Crouch and head for the ramp."
Beca nodded. Thank god she was small.
Halfway up the first ramp, it was still very silent. Jessica could however see Aubrey's car over the barriers that were there. They'd not texted which was good, it meant that they'd not seen anything else. But was it good or was it bad? What if someone was in there and they couldn't see? It was dark, they could be close to anyone.
Jessica put her hand in the air to say stop. They needed to head back to the van. Whether Beca thinks she is prepared enough or not, Ashley isn't. They need to slowly get back. Grabbing Beca's hand knowing that she couldn't protest, they headed back quietly and carefully.
As they checked that the coast was clear, they got into the car and spoke. They said that they didn't hear anything, but just that they didn't have enough bullets with them. Aubrey pointed to where they saw a light which was a couple of floors up from where Beca and Jessica got too, and they couldn't hear anything, unless like they were, the others were silent.
"Surely, though, if they were there, you'd have heard something, wouldn't you? I mean would Chloe really be silent, and if he's not on his own, would he be quiet?"
"The only way we can know is if we do a search. If it turns out wrong, then where do we go from here? The phone's saying it's down the road. They have got to be somewhere here, unless they're in a house, but all the lights are off. How would we even know?"
"I don't know, I mean, there's only so much we can do. There are people I know that could help but they're in Long Beach tonight. Jess?"
"A couple I know are in Santa Monica. But it's crazy, they're about 40-minutes away. Are we really going to sit here that long? I mean, we could do it, but what if he knows we're looking for Chloe?"
Jessica did try a few people from the station, Ashley Jones, and Amy Hobart. Only Amy could come but she wouldn't be there for at least an hour. Even though they were safe in Aubrey's car, sitting there for an hour wasn't an option. Amy did say if she could get there earlier, she would and to keep her posted if anything happened.
Checking the building one more time, Jess even saw a white light.
"There! Look, the fifth barrier up, there's a light and a dark figure!"
"Yep, someone's there alright."
"What do we do? Do we go back in?"
"No, now we know someone's there, we do not go back in there. Are you mad, Beca?"
"So what? We just sit and wait? Are you serious?"
"Let's just observe it from afar and then decide. Let's just wait a bit, ok? Maybe Amy might message."
Jessica did text Amy, just telling her that someone was in there.
'I'll be there in 40' the text said.
"We have to wait. Amy's coming."
