Stacie ran after Beca. Even though she was a short girl, she could run quick.
It was too late, however. By the time they'd gotten there, they'd all gone. They were a couple of minutes away from getting to Chloe. They looked around the small place to try and see if there were any clues. But there was only one thing there, Chloe's lab coat she'd been wearing that day at work. The girls checked the phone that Chloe had on her just to find out that the location had been turned off.
"Where the fuck have they gone Stacie? Where?!" Beca shouted.
Stacie heard the shakiness in Beca's voice. She took the phone out of Beca's hand to see if she could call the number, but it went straight to the phone company's voicemail, she tried and tried again, but it was the same outcome.
"I can't get through, Beca! We need to carefully get back to the van and see if we can drive and find something."
"How do you expect to do that? We don't even know what vehicle they drive, or what they look like?"
"We know they must drive a van, and we didn't see anyone heading in the direction we parked, so they must've headed out."
"It's all well and good saying that, but there's a road to the left and a road to the right, so we don't know what way they went."
"We didn't see or hear a car drive near us, so they must've headed out to the right. Let's just get back to the car and drive. There aren't that many cars out."
"I wonder why. Oh, that's right, there's a fucking killing spree out here, that's why."
"Chloe was right, you know? You use sarcasm way too much. Look, we'll find her. The sooner we go the better the chances are we have of getting out here before we are used as a human fucking target. Now let's get the fuck out of here, and back to the car. NOW, Beca!"
Not saying a word, Beca headed back through the trees and back the way that they came. Gunshots were still going off in the distant but that didn't affect Beca anymore. Chloe was her priority and right now she would do anything to be with Chloe, even if it meant killing a person or two.
Without thinking Beca saw the van and went straight to it. Ignoring what Stacie had said earlier about looking where she was going.
"Look out, BECA!"
Turning around, she saw a hooded figure a few hundred feet away. She stopped right there and then, not knowing what to do.
'Should I run? Should I stay?' She thought to herself. By the end of her thought process and panicking, it was too late. A gun went off.
As if it was all in a slow motion, Beca looked between Stacie and the hooded figure. It was all so very fuzzy and then the world was on its side.
Beca had been shot.
Without thinking, Stacie shot the other person multiple times until they fell down in a puddle of their own blood. Running over to Beca, she very quickly picked her up and carried her the small distant that they had to go until the van.
Opening the back of the van up, Stacie put Beca in the back and then hopped in, closing the doors. She'd not had to deal with this in the years she'd been out and about, but she was always prepared, in the front and in the back. Grabbing a torch, she lifted up Beca's top, and saw that there wasn't an exit wound. Beca was semi-conscious and groaning. Stacie kept talking to Beca over and over again, telling her what she was doing and what she was going to be doing next.
What seemed like an hour to Stacie, but in reality, only 15 minutes, she'd gotten the bullet out of Beca's chest. Thankfully it hadn't gone in far enough to cause a major problem. Stacie managed to stitch Beca up herself and cover it with a bandage.
"Hey, look, you're okay, yeah? You're fine, look, we need to be careful, okay?"
"Chlo, we need to find her."
"I know, but right now, you need to stay down. I'm going to see if the coast is clear, and I'll move you to the front."
Stacie had laid Beca along the back seats, wrapping her up in a couple of blankets to keep her warm. Before she was about to drive off, she quickly checked her and Beca's phone to see if maybe Chloe had gotten in touch, as they were certainly occupied for the last half hour.
They'd both missed calls and texts, one from Aubrey, an unknown number, and finally Chloe.
"Beca, Chloe's texted and called! Are you able to check the location and I'll drive?" Stacie said slightly gleefully, glad that Chloe had called, but not glad about the situation her and Beca were in.
"Pass it over" She whispered loudly.
Before replying to Chloe, she checked the location. They were driving along California Avenue. They weren't far from them.
