Percy's PoV
Today, we are going over the top. We are standing in the frontline trench, waiting the whistle to sound. Our artilleries are giving hell to the Germans. Shells are falling all across no-mans-land.I said to Jason, "mate, hope we don't die today." "Yeah, I don't want to die yet. If I die, I'd die fighting," he answered. I took a cigar and light it. I hold it near my mouth and started smoking. After a few minutes, the barrages started to slow a bit, but the enemy is starting to barrage us.
Phrrttt!!
The whistle sounded. We climbed the ladders and started sprinting. We are now on the no-mans-land.Shells are falling around us, creating craters. A few of our battalion mates got struck by the shrapnels and the blast. They died, of course. We kept sprinting towards the enemy trenches. When we are in range, the enemy machinegunner started shooting. Me, Jason, and someone else hid in a crater.
Jason set his Lewis gun, I prepared to reload it. Jason started shooting. I waited, and reloaded when he is out of ammunition. I also took a grenade. I throw it high up in the air, and watches as it hit a German in the head.
Boom. The grenade detonates. We now got a clear ground in the trench.
Jason and I stood and jumped in the trench. The other guy also stood but got killed by a machinegunner. I prepared my rifle, bayonet fixed. And the Germans appeared behind the corner.
More of our men had arrived too, so we got reinforcements. Germans poured to our position, but we defended it with tooth and nail.
Shove, stab, shove, stab, occasional shoot, that becames our rutinity right now.
We started clearing more of the trench, even captured a bunker and a few MG nests. Shooting continues. Grenades flew around, causing casualties, but the Germans had more than us. Not so far from us, the French had also took part of the trench.
By dawn, the trenches are filled with German bodies. The Germans seemed to have retreated, as there aree no more resistance. We spent the night in the newly captured trench.
Next morning
"...send him victorious, happy and glorious, long to reign over us..." we sung the anthem. The French also sung a song, called 'Chanson de l'Oignon'. While we sung God Save The King, they sung onions. Ridiculous."...God save the King!" We finished singing. By the French line were heard, "...Au pas camarades, au pas camarades, au pas au pas au pas...". And then heard, "...Mais pas d'oignons aux Autrichens, non pas d'oignons à tous tes chiens...". No onions for Austrians? Ridiculous song.
But whatever. They're French. They eat snails and long breads. I do not care.
Jeez, since when did I sound like a British? I'm born American, New York, not England. But whatever. We had lived there for long. Ah, whatever. British accents are good. Damn. What's next?
Hello guys, sorry for the (short) wait. Next would be the christmas truce. Maybe. Might also be news about some deaths. Please don't kill me for what I am planning to do to them. Thank you. This is actually just kinda a filler. Sorry for any grammar mistakes. I also tried to write a British person, but I might had failed. British please tell me does Percy sound British. See you later!
