"There is nothing more terrifying than soldiers marching at you with bayonet fixed."

Von Klaus's PoV (just to add a new perspective

Von Klaus had never been more terrified before. The British soldiers is crossing the no-mans-land with their bayonet ready. A line of peoples with rifles loaded and bayonet armed.

So does everyone, because no one moved. For a few minutes.

Until gunshots are heard.

The British started it. They had reached firing range and are taking cover inside craters. Von Klaus and others tried to shoot, but none hits the target. The British are covered by ground.

Only gunshots are heard, accompanied by occasional shouting and orders.

Until the sound of iron hitting ground.

Grenade. Inside the trench. No one in the trench moved for a few seconds.

And then it detonates. A few of the Germans present died in the blast, including Von Klaus.

3rd Person PoV

Then the Brits entered the trench and starts clearing.

Bullets fly around, killing many. Bodies started to litter the ground, that the Brits took cover behind them. Lewis guns and muskets fired. Bayonet and shovels met, sometimes bayonet and bayonet, melee fighting ensued in some areas.

More Germans poured in, trying to retake what is lost, but fails.

Bodies pile up, blocking the trench, that it is even used as pillboxes.

But still, the Brits can't take the trench.

Artillery shells kept falling over them, that a lot of the British casualties died from artillery fire.

And the Germans decided to use gas.

So the Brits are caught off guard by the mustard gas.

The counter-attack became a disaster. Brits fell from the gas, all while even more Brits jumped into the trench.

And in the middle is Percy and Jason.

Both of them have to watch as their countrymen fall dead from the gas.

Some privates urged them to return and let the others fight this, but they insisted to stay.

As the gas reached their position, they looked for their gas mask, but failed.

What does that means? Certain death.

They run out of the German trench and retreated, but fall into a crater.

A disgusting crater, filled with mud and corpse, and a lot of rats.

But while they're still face down in those mud, the others had started to retreat.

Shouts are heard all around. "Retreat!" All the sergeant and captains shouted.

Men stumbled across no-mans-land, retreating to their trenches. But Percy and Jason are still stuck in the crater, as shells rained down all around them.

"Nice fighting with you, Sergeant Grace," Percy said. "So does I, Sergeant Jackson," Jason answered. Both of them laughed. "See you in the underworld, Jase," "see you too, Perce."

And the yellow smoke engulfed them.

They coughed up blood. Shells kept raining down around them. One covered them in mud.

And they exhaled their last breath.

South of Ypres, in the battle of Hill 60, they met their death.

Sorry for killing them. And the battle of Hill 60 is real, but not the British counterattack. But anyways, next chapter they will enter the canon PJO world.
