I was diagnosed with bone cancer when I was seven and was told to stop playing football which really bummed me out. But, then I got into drawing something I could do without my right leg because I had a small tumor in my femur. So, throughout the rest of my school years I drew everyday. My mother thought I should be an artist but I really would have liked to be an NFL football player. But, the summer of my freshman year of college I got really dizzy and confused that I passed out in the middle of the road. Sadly the oncoming car didn't see me and ran over my right leg. So, I was admitted to the hospital and had my leg amputated. And on top of all of that my tumor had grown to stage three bone cancer so I was out of luck or so I thought. I come from a family of two. I have a little brother named Leo and my mother April. When Leo was born my dad had a heart attack and died when I was five. But, now after three weeks of being in the hospital a young woman was admitted to the room next to me. I saw her for a second before the door shut and she had beautiful brown to pink hair and a pixie cut almost. Her eyes were a stunning brown amber. I had never seen someone more beautiful than her. I couldn't talk to her though because we were not allowed to leave our rooms so I thought of the next best thing. I had to wait for her to wake up because she was under a lot of medication. But, once she woke I grabbed some paper, a pencil and some tape and tried to talk to her. Sadly, she didn't see my sign for a few weeks. I thought she was ignoring me but boy was I wrong. She had written back after two weeks, her name is Rose. We would spend all day just taping up paper to our windows for the other person to see. She had inspired me to start drawing again so when I heard her birthday was soon I couldn't wait to surprise her with a picture I would draw her. It had to be the best picture I had ever drawn. But, I spent two hours with no ideas and paper overflowing my trash can. As, I was in the middle of my artist block I heard a knock from outside and she wrote, "Hi, how are you doing?" I wrote back "Fine, I guess." But I saw in her eyes something I have never seen before. It was like a scared, secret look in her eyes. A look that only someone that had been through a lot could give. I was worried to ask her but she came out to me. "My sister is being admitted to the hospital tomorrow." I was shocked, not only did she have a sister, but she was admitted to the hospital as well. I didn't know what to say but to Rose but she told me that she had a twin sister and they were both vegan. I was fascinated by her story. Then it hit me, the perfect idea for her birthday gift. I told her I had to work on homework and got started right away. I couldn't stop the pencil on the page; it just came flowing out of me. But, then she was being moved for a few tests but it was the first time I would ever see her out of her room. The door opened and I saw crutches and a light blue polka dotted hospital gown. But she didn't have her left leg. She saw my face and I didn't want to be rude so I looked away. I had never seen someone more scared then Rose. She came back a few hours later and I was being taken for some test and when she saw me without my right leg her face was shocked, but right after she smiled and wrote "Me too".
