"Hey if you want to make it to English in time for your girlfriend then you should go now." Luke says to me as I finish up my lunch.

"Oh yeah thanks." I smile as I get up from the table.

"So you're not even gonna give out to me for calling her your girlfriend?" He asks me, cocking an eyebrow up and I shake my head and walk away.

Arriving in English very early I see she is already sitting down at our desk, listening to some sort of music from her earphones.

I take a seat next to her and take out my books as usual. I take a peek at her phone and see that she is listening to All Time Low. I love that band. Maybe I should say something. Stop being a pussy Ashton and speak up. Wait, will she hear me? She has her earphones in. I don't want it to be awkward because she doesn't reply and makes me feel like I'm talking to myself.

I realise that she only has one earphone in and if I speak up she will hear me.

"I love that band." I try to sound casual but it just comes out sounding stupid.

"Oh really? I didn't know anyone in this school had a good music taste that isn't basic." She chuckles.

"Haha yeah." I laugh and then there is a silence.

"I'm Mia by the way." No way, I'm only your number one stalker.

"Oh hi." I smile.

She looks at me weirdly and raises her eyebrows at me.

"This is usually the part where you introduce yourself." She half laughs.

"Oh sorry, I'm Ashton." I say, feeling my cheeks go red. This is why I never talk to her.

"So you're the guy that was with Sarah at the party last week right?" She asks and I nod.

"She's nice." I smile.

"I've known her for a long time now. I'm not trying to sound mean and this is probably not a great thing to say to somebody you just met but, I'd stay away from her." She warns and I furrow my eyebrows.

"Why?" I ask.

"She's just not the nicest person." She sighs and I decide not to ask anymore, worried I might annoy her. I want the conversation to keep going but I don't know how. I'm good at flirting but with her I can't think of what to say.

"So do you like the book we are reading in class?" She asks.

"To be honest, no, it's so predictable and boring." I rub my eye and finally look up to make eye contact. She looks a little taken aback when we first make eye contact but goes back to the conversation.

"I thought I was the only one that hated that piece of shit. All the girls go on about how sexy Trent is and how much they want a bad boy but all I can focus on is how bad the plot is." And that ladies and gentlemen, is the reason why I love Mia O'Brien so much.

"Thank you! Finally somebody with common sense." I say and she laughs. Maybe I'm not to bad at talking to her after all, I made her laugh.

"You hang around with Luke Hemmings right?" She asks and I nod. "Oh that's cool. All the girls say how hot the both of you are as best friends. I think they've gone as far as making you a ship name. Lashton." She giggles.

"Wow. I knew that some people talked about us but I never knew they done that." I say, trying to contain my laughter.

"Seriously. You should hear some of the things they say." She laughs more.

I look around to see that more people are entering the class and that the teacher should be here soon. I don't want this conversation with Mia to end, knowing how hard it will be to start a new one, but I don't really think I have a choice. Fuck school.

"Well I guess class will be starting soon. It was good talking to you. It would be cool if we could talk again some time." She smiles at me and I feel like I'm the happiest person on the planet in that moment.

"Yeah that would be cool." I say casually.

"It's funny how much your freaking out over this." Luke smiles.

"She said we should talk again some time. That's a pretty big deal." I say.

"Whatever dude. I'm happy for you. It only took seven years but you finally grew a pair and talked to her." He nods.

"Thanks I guess." I furrow my eyebrows.

"Anyway, I need help with something." Luke says, looking down at his phone.

"What?" I ask.

"I need to have sex with Tricia again. I swear, she's amazing." He says and I roll my eyes.

"What do you wanna be to her? Friends with benefits or something?" I ask.

"I guess. I'm not like you with all your sappy girlfriend stuff." He waves his hand.

"Just because I'm respective towards women doesn't mean I'm a sap." I roll my eyes again.

"I don't know. I just don't like the concept of being in love or only spending the rest of your life with one girl." He shrugs.

"You should get used to it. You'll probably end up getting married. The ones who say that they'll never settle down are usually the ones that do." I say, running a hand through my messy hair.

"Well trust me, if I get married, it's gonna be to someone who's great in bed." He says.

"Why am I even friends with you?" I scoff.

"Because you love me." He smiles.

"Oh god please no." I say covering my face. I was still weirded out thinking about Lashton.

"What?" He furrows his eyebrows in confusion.

"Nothing."
