Everyday after I went to the tree that one time with Spencer, I went to the treehouse alone. Hoping that I would get some sign of life. And one day, I did. I was leaning out the window of the treehouse, about two months after the first attack from the government. We still had not found the one for our mission. We needed to do the mission soon, before it was to late. So as I leaned out this window, staring at the sky, thinking more about the mission, a small bird alighted on the branch right in front of me. The bird showed no fear of me, just sat there on the branch. I had never seen a bird like it. Not in this woods. It was little, with green feathers, and at the end of each wing the feathers faded to a pale yellow gold color. I studied the strange little bird, and then my eye caught it's. A glimmer of intelligence flickered in it eye, a glimmer that I knew for sure I had never seen in a bird. The bird then flew past my head and into the treehouse. Landing on the floor and hopping around, inspecting everything carefully. It flew all around the ceiling, as if it was looking for something. As though birds look for specific things. Then, looking content with whatever it did or didn't see, it landed on the floor, and it's form started to flicker then there was a flash of light, and there wasn't a bird there anymore. There was a familiar human figure standing before me. Ace. I must've looked pretty stupid just standing there, my emotions switching from hopeful, to happy, to angry, then to happy again. I wasn't sure it was even happening. Was this just an illusion again? But when he laughed, I knew it wasn't just a vision.
" Ace! " I screamed " Where have you been?" I was almost crying from the mixture of emotions spinning inside me. I was angry at him for leaving us for so long, but happy that he was alive and here, just like I had believed all along.
" Around." He answered casually, as though he had just gone out on a walk for thirty minutes and just come back.
" Seriously? You leave us, give us no sign that you are alive or anything, and then just act as though nothing happened? Everyone thinks you're dead!"
" Sorry." He said. " But it's good that everyone thinks that I'm dead. The government was tracking me, and I didn't want to lead them to the rest of the Supernaturals. So instead, I faked my death, so every bit of evidence that I was around was destroyed. The government now thinks that I'm dead because their own troops supposedly killed me. That's what everyone there thinks anyway. Just a little mind control trick, and now they all think that I don't exist anymore, so now they've stopped tracking me. Just it make sure though, I stayed away for a while. If they found out I was alive still, then they would've gotten me again, but they never came after me again, so now I know for sure that they think I'm dead. "
" Well how did you know that they were tracking you? " I asked.
" Can I explain later? I'm really hungry for some human food. Like, when I transform I eat whatever the animal eats, and it tastes fine then, but it doesn't fill my stomach like normal food does. Can we please just go to Terragentem and get some food?" Ace asked, almost pleading.
" Fine. By the way, I took over your job as Versatile General. "
" Really? How fast? I knew that you guys would be in Versatile! How's Mark doing? What rank did he get? Is Spencer doing ok?" Ace started rapid firing questions at me.
" When we get back, I can answer all your questions while you eat, and then, you have to give us all the details of what has happened to you."
" Deal." He said.
" Wait, what about you turn into something small that can fit in my backpack so that way people won't see you? It might be a little overwhelming to see someone who was dead suddenly alive again right after we came back from battle." I said. I didn't want people to almost have a heart attack or something. Most people thought that Ace had been dead for a while now.
" There was a battle? Is everyone ok?" Ace asked worriedly " I should've been there for you guys! "
" It's ok, don't beat yourself up about it. " I answered, even though it wasn't ok, but I didn't need him to be more confused then he already was. " Me and the rest if Versatile can explain later. Just transform and get in the backpack. The sooner you do that, the sooner we can get home. "
Ace transformed into a small snake and slid into the backpack. I zipped it up, and we went back to the Versatile Base. The moment he slid out of the backpack and transformed back into himself again, safe at the Versatile base, everyone was overjoyed to see their previous general alive again. Once we sat down and ate, all of Versatile filled him in on what had happened in all the time he was gone. Once all his questions were answered, it was time for his story.
