Slappy's POV:
I held Kella's hand as we walked down the street, showing the children what the world was like outside their books. Sam held onto his mother's hand as he curiously glanced at the houses.
"Daddy, how come Grandpa wrote us from a book?" Kella stares at me, her eyes wide and a curious look on her face. I bent down to carry her, "That is a superb question there, Kella." I lifted her in my arms.
"Your mother and I asked your grandfather to write you two," I turned my head to both children to see them stare at us with questioning looks, "Your father and I were written by your grandfather as well," Keilee added.
Sam frowned, "So that means that we're not real?" We stopped walking and faced Sam, "What? No, Sam, you and Kella are real!" I was shocked to hear Sam mention that they aren't real.
"But we came out of a book!" Kella points out. Keilee and I glanced at each other, concerned a little. Finally, Keilee wrapped her arms around Kella and Sam, "We know. We asked for you. And you came."
"So, we are real?" Sam ponders for a moment. Then, Slappy rests his hand on Sam's shoulder, "Yes, you are real. Both of you."
The children smiled at us and hugged us tightly. Then, walking in town, the kids pointed to the stores and cars we passed.
"Slappy? Keilee?"
I turn my head to see Lorraine walking towards us.
"Lorraine!" I waved my hand to her. She came up to us with a friendly smile, "Hey! How are you doing?" She asked. Keilee smiled, "We're just walking around town with the kids."
Lorraine's eyebrows go up in surprise, "Kids?" She questioned. Stepping aside, I showed Kella to Lorraine, and Keilee showed Sam. Lorraine opens her mouth in shock, "Wh-when did this happen?"
I rested my hand on her shoulder, "Papa wrote their story last night. Sam here is ten years old, and Kella is eight years old." I answered. Lorraine's smile widened, "They are adorable!" She hugged the children.
Sam and Kella glanced at each other, confused about why Lorraine hugged them.
"Hello Sam, Kella. I'm Lorraine!" She grins at the children.
"You know dad and mom?" Sam tilts his head at her.
I rest my hand on Sam's shoulder, "Lorraine here, dates your grandfather." I point out. Kella smiles and hugs Lorraine's waist, "It's nice to meet you!" She chirped. Lorraine returns the hug with a toothy grin.
Keilee smiles at the scene, "Would you like to join us at the Cafe?" She offers. Lorraine stands back up and faces us, "As much as I want to, I can't. I have to head to my store to drop off supplies." She rubs Keilee's shoulder.
"Maybe another time." I gave her a small smile. Lorraine returns the smile and nods her head, "Sounds good,"
Sam and Kella hug Lorraine one last time before she takes off down the street to her store.
"I like her!"
"Me too!"
I face the kids to see them watch Lorraine disappear around the corner.
"We should head back to the house. It is getting late." Keilee points to the town clock as it reads 5:45 pm. I widen my eyes in surprise, "Where did the time go?" I thought to myself.
Once we returned home, the kids ran to Hannah and told her about what they saw today. I smiled, watching them as they chattered excitingly. Finally, Keilee walked into the kitchen to see if Papa needed help making dinner.
I stood by the stairs in thought. For some reason, I felt like something was wrong. I shook my head at the thought. "Nothing is wrong. You just had a long day. Everything is fine." I chuckled. Everything is fine.
Or so I thought.
