The following day, Slappy sat next to Keilee as she watched him closely in the kitchen.
"Hun," Keilee sighed, "What is troubling you so much?" She rests her hand on his. Slappy glanced at her with tired eyes, "Keilee," He began, "I-I keep seeing the strange doll in my dreams. She kept saying that she is my true bride." Slappy covered his face with his hands.
Keilee stood up, walked behind him, and began massaging his shoulders, feeling the tight muscles try to loosen up, "And Wally?" Keilee asked uncertainly. Her husband groaned as his muscles strained under her hands, "Sometimes he's there." Slappy gasped as his shoulders popped and loosened up.
Slappy leaned back as Keilee began massaging his neck, "Hmmm..." Keilee kissed his cheek, "They're just-"
"Just dreams. I know." Slappy moaned as his neck cracked. Then, a comfortable silence settled between the married couple.
"DADDY! MOMMY!"
Keilee turned her head to see Kella skipping over to her, "Hello, darling," Keilee greeted.
Slappy picked her up and sat her on his lap, "Hey, pumpkin," And smiled at the child.
"Dad!" Sam entered the kitchen, with Hannah following close behind. Slappy smiled at his son, "Hi sport! What are you two up to?"
"We wanted to know if we could explore the attic! But Hannah said no." Sam crossed his arms while turning his head to his aunt. Hannah tried not to chuckle at Sam's attempt at a glare.
Slappy turns to Sam, "Well, I'm sure she has a good reason on why you shouldn't." Slappy glances at Hannah, and he raises his eyebrow at her, "Right, Hannah?"
Hannah's eyes widened slightly, noticing the strange look in his eyes, "Right, Slappy," She answered. Hannah crossed her arms and gave a small smile.
"But what's in the attic?" Kella questioned, staring at her father innocently.
Keilee chuckled lightly, "The only thing in the attic is dust and storage boxes full of holiday decorations." She quickly glanced at Hannah. Both kids glanced at each other, unconvinced.
"Dad, have you seen the attic?" Sam pressed.
Slappy frowned at his son, "Well..."
"Slappy..." Keilee warned, whispering in his ear.
Slappy quickly turned his head to his wife to see the warning glare and snapped his head back to Sam, "Yep! I've seen the attic. Full of holiday decorations and dust. Nothing interesting up there." He fibbed. Keilee patted Slappy's shoulder and grinned at him.
Kella and Sam frowned, "If you say so..." Kella hopped off Slappy's lap and took Sam's hand. Both children made their way out of the kitchen and into the living room. "Okay, girls," Slappy stood up and faced Keilee and Hannah, "What is in the attic?" He questioned, his arms crossed over his chest and a frown plastered.
"Dad moved the book to the attic," Hannah carefully answered as she wrung her hands in front of her.
Slappy paled as she mentioned 'the book.' He glanced at Keilee as she confirmed Hannah's answer, "It's true, hun. Stine moved the book to the attic two nights ago." Keilee rested her hand on his shoulder.
Sam and Kella glanced at each other as they eavesdropped on their parents' conversation with their aunt Hannah.
"What book?" Kella whispered to Sam. Sam frowned as their parents spoke, "The kids won't find it?" Slappy questioned.
"Dad hid the book in a metal chest up there." Hannah's voice answered.
Sam faced his sister, "Looks like we're gonna explore this 'metal' chest." Sam whispered.
