Slappy's POV:
It was eerie in the cemetery. I studied the stones in the ground, reading off the names of people who lived in Madison, Delaware. The wind howled through the branches of the trees and left strange shadows on the ground and rock. My eyes narrowed at the shapes. It made me uneasy, thinking that all of Papa's creations would jump out and attack.
"I hate being back here," Champ mutters to himself.
Everyone silently agreed with the awkward teen. The air felt thick and heavy to me. My chest tightened, and a bead of sweat trailed down my neck. Papa rested his hand on my shoulder, concern written on his face. Keilee took Kella's hand from me and walked further up to the others.
"Slappy, what's wrong?"
I faced Papa, then the ground. Something is going to happen, something terrible. Papa moved in front of me, making me halt, "Slappy, you seem nervous. What is it?" Papa whispered. I swallowed thickly, "Papa, I feel like... like something is..." What is wrong with me? I can't tell my father what is wrong! Papa nodded gently, "Something terrible is going to happen?" He theorized. I turned my eyes away from him, not entirely looking, but shook my head. Papa draped his arm over my shoulders, and we began walking down the path to catch up with the others. My body shivered, not from the chilly wind but from chilling eyes. Eyes that are seeing but can't be seen anywhere.
Wally.
I glance up to see Hannah and Zach glance around nervously. Sam and Kella gripped each other's arms and stared in front of them. A shadow passes behind a tree and fades away. I stepped forward and squinted at the tree; someone was behind there. The wind howled, and a different sound followed. Lorraine and Papa gasped and searched around their surroundings. Champ and Keilee stepped closer to everyone, and Keilee narrowed her eyes, trying to find out who or what was there.
Ghouls. That was the first thing that popped into my head. The Ghouls are watching us. The sound came again, a light moan that followed the wind. I spun behind to see a figure standing on the path, not moving. Another cry blew in the wind, louder and longer. "Ghouls," I murmured aloud enough for Papa to hear. I quickly glanced to see Papa in shock. Then, I averted my eyes to the path to see another Ghoul on the rocky trail next to the other.
"Moan..."
More Ghouls appeared, slowly surrounding us. Papa grabbed my arm, "Run!" I grabbed Kella and Sam, and we bolted off the path. More Ghouls appeared and tried to catch our clothes. We jumped over stones and pushed Ghouls out of our way. I spotted the gate to the woods and picked up the pace. Once we reached the gate, I sat the children down and pushed the locked gate open as far as possible.
"Go, kids!"
Sam and Kella made their way out of the cemetery and to the other side. Hannah and Keilee followed after them. Hannah grabbed the gate and held it as Champ and Zach escaped. Papa ducked down but got stuck, "I'm stuck again!" I quickly looked over to see the Ghouls inch closer. Lorraine and I locked eyes for a moment, and with the help of Zach and Hannah, we managed to get him on the other side. Lorraine made her way through the gate and faced me, "Slappy, look out!"
I turned to see a Ghoul trying to grab me with its rotten hand. I ducked down and moved out of the way. The Ghoul groaned, and another appeared next to it, blocking the exit. I took a step back and realized that the Graveyard Ghouls slowly surrounded me. "Daddy!" Kella cried out. I quickly glanced at my daughter, then the Ghouls, "Why don't you leave a message for Wally and the plastic parasite for me." I growled lowly. The Ghoul closest to me moaned.
I lifted my hands to the Ghouls, and my brown eyes glowed green. A blast of fire erupted from my hands, blowing the Ghouls away from me. Not a moment to lose, I leaped over some of the Ghouls and pushed my way through the gate. I fell to the ground on the other side and scrambled to my feet. Papa grabbed my arm, and we sprinted away, leaving the Ghouls trapped. I could still hear the Ghouls' cries as we ran. Champ abruptly stops, causing Zach and Hannah to crash into him. "Champion!" Papa yelled, and the two of us moved to the silent teen. Champ had his eyes forward, fear on his face. I averted my eyes to see what he was looking at, and my blood went cold.
Down the road was Wally Wood.
"Hello, brother." Wally hissed.
"Moan..."
We turned to see the Ghouls appear behind us, groaning and moaning. Their rotten flesh hung as they dragged their legs towards us. I face Wally with fear. He came off different, too different. Wally stood there with a malicious grin on his lips, his arms crossed over his chest, and he tapped his foot on the paved road.
"Wally..." I spoke with a tremor, "Why do you...?" My eyes widened, as did Keilee's. He stood taller than his standard three feet and two inches. No, he was much taller; than me by two inches. "How?" My voice cracked. Keilee stood next to me with a glare, "How did you turn human, Wally? You don't have that kind of power!"
Wally laughed, "My dear sister-in-law! Anything is possible when you have others combine their intelligence and duplicate your power!" He half-answered. Duplicate? Who can duplicate another's power?
"What do you mean, Wally?" I glance over my shoulder to see the Ghouls inch closer to us, then back to my brother. His grin widened, and a dark chuckle escaped his lips, "Slappy, don't underestimate the knowledge of the doctors and professors created by Stine." I shifted on my feet and side-glance at Papa. "Dr. Gray..."
"Professor Shock..."
Wally averted his eyes over my shoulder, "Now, if you excuse me, I have something important to do." I took a step back cautiously, watching him closely. Wally snickered and raised his hand. Instantly, I was flung back and smacked to the ground. Keilee, Hannah, and Papa landed near me. Lorraine, Zach, and Champ fell to the paved ground next to us. I glance at Wally to see him hold Kella and Sam in his grip.
"Daddy! Mommy!"
"Dad, Mom!"
"No!" I struggled to stand up, but a flash of light blinded us. The children's screams and Wally's laughter echoed as they disappeared. The Ghouls have also vanished in the air. I blinked and could only stare at the empty spot where Wally stood. He took them. Wally took our kids. Keilee put her hand over her mouth, and tears began to slide down her cheeks. I grabbed her arm and held her close to my chest. Papa, Lorraine, Hannah, Zach, and Champ were shocked.
My mind raced in panic. Wally looked specifically like he did in my nightmares. Human and evil. The Ghouls, the mantis...
It is the beginning of our brotherly quarrel.
