Bucky Barnes X Y/n: I hate you, I love you

Chapter 15

I was slowly getting up from the gurney when I spotted a note on a table and opened it, 'doughnuts should help', I read and smile to myself because I already know they're from Fitz, he was my next best friend, so it was nice of him to drop by, patch me up and bring me doughnuts, 'Y/n', I heard and look up to see Bucky who was sitting on the chair across me, 'are you okay', he asks, I don't know why he's concerned or showing sympathy but I don't question it, instead I nod, 'I'm fine', I reply and watch him nod this time, then look around the Medbay, 'what time is it', I ask.

'Around one in the afternoon', he responds and then I'm nodding and stand from the gurney, 'what...', I begin but cut myself off when my knee gives in and before I stumble, I grab onto the gurney to catch myself and sigh, fuck, that's going to be a problem, I thought when I felt Bucky's presence over me and I look over to see him just a few feet away from me, 'I'm okay', I said when I see his eyes on my legs and see some of his worry slip away, '...you can stop the show of caring, you hate me remember', I remind him and see his eyes snap to me.

'I don't hate you', he spits out and then it falls silent as I look at him and I'm caught off guard, I thought he did, I thought he always would do, but I heard the truth behind what he just said and now, I already know it's going to change things.

I stood to my full length again and when I balanced myself and took a few steps, I sighed to myself and looked at Bucky, 'I'm fine', I said again, 'Just like I told you', I add and then take my box of doughnuts and walk out of the room.

I didn't make it two feet out the room when my knee gave in again, and this time I couldn't stop myself or brace myself on anything, but before I could fall to the ground, two strong arms caught me and my back hits flush against Bucky's, who I realised had caught me and I turn my head to look at him.

Instead of saying anything though, he just helps me back into the Medbay and onto the gurney, whilst I stare down at my knee, there's definitely something wrong with it, 'I'll get doctor Cho to do more tests', Bucky tells me and prepares to walk out the room but I stop him, 'thank you', I said and he only turns his head half way towards me for a couple of seconds and walks back out.

I knocked on Wanda's door, I had no recollection of what happened until Steve told me and I felt guilty, 'Hi Y/n', she says with a big bright smile on her face and I sighed a little, 'I just came to apologise for putting my dagger against your throat', I said as she nods a little.

'It's fine, it was an accident, and you had no idea of what you we're doing', she says as I put out my hand and handed her a bag, 'what is it', she asked.

'I got you your favourite snacks as an apology, I'm sorry', I said.

'Don't worry about it, and thank you', she says whilst I turned to leave and just when I was about to walk back to the room, she stopped me as I looked back at her, 'I just want you to know, that if you want to talk, about anything, I'm here to listen', she explained as I furrowed my brows a little and nod whilst she does too, 'good, anyway, you wanna come shopping with me, Vision can't come, so I need an extra pair of hands', she says, '...and it'll be a great help for me', she said as I sighed and then nod, 'I'll go grab my jacket', I said as she smiled again.

I held the bars of the cart as I strolled behind Wanda whilst she busied herself with grabbed stuff off of the shelf that she needed from the list she had in her hands, something so menial, makes her smile this much, she must really like cooking, the thought ran across my mind as she put more things in.

'You do realise, the pair of us can't take all this by ourselves', I said as she turned to me and nods, whilst pointed at something behind me, and I turned to see Sam, Steve and Bucky and I sighed under my breath, 'if you knew they we're coming, what's the point in telling me to come along', I said as she shrugged her shoulders a little, 'I love the company', she says, heading to the next aisle whilst we followed and I shook my head a little, 'note to self, red heads are bloody annoying', I said more to myself, not realising that I actually said it when the three laughed and I looked back at them, '...and you guys are too', I said as they continued and I stopped when she did, letting her drop the items in the cart and then walking to the next isle.
