"Obinna, are you not going to begin the search for your mate?
It has been two and half Red moons already!"
The young man smiled softly and turned to his friend.
"Patience, Uche she would soon be with us."

"Your cuts are deep, Aira...it would...it would take more than a half Red moon to heal!"
Dinma stated in a voice that was barely audible. She had healing abilities although she was always sick.

Ola stayed next to her daughter, shedding silent tears.
Her appearance though was no better than her daughter's.
Aira's body was battered. Her skin wounded beyond recognition.

The only thing that was a little bit recognisable on her body was her face, which for some reason the Alpha had chosen to spare.
"I...I...I do not have...that...that much time."
Her voice was barely a rasp.
Her speech had been affected as well.

"Aira, you have just one night to spend_"
Cheta entered the hut before glancing at everyone's scared faces.
They were all in his chambers.
After Aira had 'escaped' from the death field, she had managed to locate Cheta's hut.

He had found her in the front of his door steps, barely breathing.
"_the Alpha has issued a command for your head.
He...he... searched for your body_"

Aira knew she did not have time.
"Foolish human! Do you want me to help you heal now? Or should we wait till we finally get to the after life?"
"Fire can help."
Aira whispered.

Dinma raised a questioning brow.
"Who is Fire?"
"Her wolf."
"What! Odiegwu! She has a wolf!"
The sickly girl could not believe the words she was hearing.
Slaves did not have wolves!
How...how did she still have hers?

She bent over the half dead girl.
"Aira...if you...if you use your wolf it could weaking her into a dormant state for a long time. It may even kill her!"

"We do not have a choice! We can not let her die!"
Ola shouted before falling into another weeping feat.
They had all agreed to let her cry to her heart's extent, but honestly Aira was beginning to get irritated.

"Cheta...can you send mother out of here?"
Ola's head snapped at the statement.
"I would not leave your side, Aira! I swore to the princess to protect you with my life but I failed on that small task! I could not protect you, I am a worthless mother!"

"No mama! How can you_"
But she could not speak any further.
How could mama think like that?
Tears began to pour out of Aira's eyes to the surprise of everybody in the room.
The girl had never shown any expression before, She had held her feelings so strongly her walls were never down.

But now here she was crying!
Real tears actually came out of her eyes.
Cheta smiled. She had finally grown the heart of a warrior!

"I am sorry mama...I...I...I brought this upon you! You are not a worthless mother! You are the best woman on this Earth for me!"
Ola bent down and hugged her.

"I should have protected you, I should have been there! Real mothers...real mothers pro...protect their pups! I could not even be there to give you food while you were starved!"

The wounds hurt. But seeing her mother cry hurt more.
Over the moons, Aira had tried to look tough and unshakable.
She wanted her mother to be able to lean on her and trust her!

But Aira knew that her mother was the real pillar.
She could not count how many times.  her mother had been beating and raped just to save her.

They were too engrossed in their moments that they did not notice  Cheta and Dinma slip out to give them some privacy.

"Mother,I want you to continue being strong! You have always been strong mama_"
"No..."
Ola shook her head in disagreement but Aira was not having any of that.
"Look at me mother! I know..."

Ola wiped her tears messily.
"What do you know?"
"I know how many times they had come to take me and molest me but you stood in!"
The words stung like a bee for Aira, but she had to say it.
Her mama had to know how strong she really was.

"Oh...nwam..my daughter! That was the least this horrible mother could do!"
"No mama! That was the greatest sacrifice! I can not imagine my strength without you mama!
You are stronger than I could ever be! You gave your life to a child that was not even yours!"

Ola ran her fingers through her daughter's hair.
"I do not know what you mean,Aira! But our bond is thicker than blood. I did not push you out of me,but you came to me! You found me,Aira! Our bond is spiritual no human or wolf would be able to understand this!"

Aira nodded her head in understanding.
"I understand you mother! That is why I want you to promise me that you would be strong! I would have to leave for now,but I want you to continue living with hope! I will not fail you again, mama!"

Ola smiled despite her tear spoilt face.
She knew that she could have faith in her daughter. Over the moons, she had tried to raise Aira to be a normal slave. But deep inside, she always knew that there was more to her than meet the eyes.

Now, she had to learn to accept that her daughter had to go and pursue her destiny.

"Aira...I would begin the healing process"
"You do know it could weaking you or even kill you!"
Fire scoffed within her.
"We are going to die either ways.
I would heal some of your wounds to get you back on your feet, but I can not promise that the scars would fade."

Aira nodded fiercely.
Honestly, she did not want the scars to fade. She wanted them to remain on her body as a reminder of the reasons she was making all these sacrifices.

"I am ready"
Fire whispered. They both knew that there may be serious consequences for Fire's healing, but it was a risk Fire was willing to take for Aira's safety.
"Mother you have to leave. I would need great amount of energy to heal Aira and I do not want you to be hurt in the process."
With one last pat on Aira's head, Ola stood up and left the room.

"Fire, if you decide to back out now_"
" NO! Aira I want to do this! I have to save you. You have to save mother and the others!"
"No Fire...we would save mother together!"

With a painful deep breath, the process began.
Fire took over,Aira's eyes turning a fiery shade of yellow.
Her hair stood on edge, her nails tore out, growing into animalistic lengths.

Then, her body began stitching back together.
Her wounds began to close.
Fire let out a painful scream as the pains began to drain her energy. But she was not done yet so she fought to keep working, to keep healing.

After painful minutes, the healing stopped, and Fire gave Aira back control.
"Fire..."
Aira called weakly.
There was no answer.

Ola, Cheta and Dinma rushed in.
"What happened? Are you alright_?"
Aira nodded once.
"What about...what about Fire?"
Dinma asked, fearing the worst.

Aira closed her eyes, fighting the tears.
"She is gone."
