Chapter 13 – I Learned Courage From Suicide.
“You left him!” Kesley shouted. Her eyes are watery, her voice is trembling and almost dry, her clothes are burned with marks of claws and filled with dust. “We need to go back there. . . We need to go back for my brother!”
I pull myself up from my slumber. The sea side shines over the bright blue sky. I look around, almost all of us have the same look as Kesley, we are all burned up, tattered, tired. We’re on a sidewalk beside the sea, the brick floors are filled with crowd of people who are look at us, maybe saying “Oh look at this greasy teenagers!”
Eve helps me in gaining my position, my body feels like I’ve been inside a blender.
“What . . . happened?” I asked. “How did I . . .?”
“We dragged you to the teleportation circle, we teleported in here, New York, and Kesley. . .”
“What happened?”
“Ken was left.”
“Daniel!” Kesley approaches me, crosses her arms around me and lays her head over my shoulders. “Please, let’s go back. I’ll, just, just, want to find Ken. . . “
“Oh Daniel, don’t let her do it.” Dylan contradicted. “Doing that will be suicide! Ares, the army, you missed everything while you were unconscious!”
“Please Daniel, please.” Kesley whispered in my ears. Her tears made my sleeve wet, her trembling body made me feel more dizzy. “Please, please, please, please, please please!” She repeated.
Dylan scratches his red hair which makes it more messy. “We are already facing a crisis here! Look I have my friends down there, but you’re not hearing me saying anything!”
“Dylan, just, stop talking please? You’re not making it any better.” Chloe commented. “I think we should rest for a minute, think all about it for a while and make a decision.”
“I agree.” Charl added. “I feel really hungry by now.”
“Me too.” Eve put in.
“Uh . . um . .” I mumbled, looking over Kesley who started to sob.
I don’t know what’s happening. I don’t know why these persons have their eyes on me, waiting for my decision. I’m the one who fell out before them. I’m the one who loses the battle first, and all of them fought for me . . .saved me. Now they’re handling the decision to me, and I don’t know what to do.
“Look Daniel, we can’t just stand here and wait for everything to stop.” Chloe said.
“My stomach hurts.” Mark added. “I need to eat. I’m hungry.”
Kesley hugs me even tighter. For all of my time with her, she’s the one I always respect. She’s the one with the leader charisma, with the strength, something like a female version of Red. But I can’t believe I’m seeing her like this.
“We’re going into my house.” I declared. “It’s just few meters away from here.”
“I think, that’s the best plan.” Charl agreed. “Daniel’s house is way nearer than the nearest hotel.”
“And the food?” Eve asked.
“I believe Chloe and Dylan could abra kadabra some.”
-------------------
The carpet reminds me of mom. Ares’ message is still printed in it, and just by looking at it my anger rise from my heart. Chloe and Dylan did some Egyptian magic for the house, they fixed everything and made an instant lunch. Having both of them is quite a nice help since they’re like maids who uses magic.
