Chapter 14 - We Gate-crushed a Party

My butt hurts. I don’t like the feeling of being sucked in a vortex, passing thirty seconds through a lot of random colors, auras, monsters, everything weird you can imagine. Then the vortex spitted me out, making me land butt-first.

The whole place is ruined. The ceiling can break apart any second now, the walls are starting to fall from its cracks and burns. Debris are all over the floor, as I grab one and throw into Kesley’s feet to grab her attention.

I succeeded, she turns around catching a gaze of me. Alex is beside her, playing with a piece of ice which rotates around his hand. Red is few steps behind both of them, he quickly give me a short fierce look. He always do that, his eyes goes autopilot when he sees me— but how did he get here before I did?

Kesley moves her hand telling me to go with them.  “We are going to find him.” She said. “I’m not leaving this place until I did.”

“If someone pays me a dollar every time you say that, I’ll be having a thousand right now.” I complained.

She ignored my joke, brings out her wand and make it glow bright enough for us to see. The place looks worse than it does in the dark. With light, I can see swords, arrows even . . . corpse.

We walk through the narrow hallway, observing hieroglyphs in the walls as we pass by. It reminds me of my drawings back when I was young.

Back  then, I always want to be an artist, a painter. I remember posting all of my drawing in my room, telling everyone that they’re actually better than Mona Lisa. I removed all of them when I realized they all look like a broken umbrella, electrocuted fish, or abused humans.

Before we could reach the corner, a big fat grey demon with horns on his bald head appears in front of us from the corner itself. Kesley quickly put light off.

The demon, in a great way, doesn’t seem to notice us. He’s just playing with his stomach, making bounce again and again, tapping it, looking like a drum filled with water or something— or maybe poop. . . Uh, thinking about it make me feel like vomiting.

“Eman, you fat guy!” Said one demon with really small voice. “The prisoners are all set in the table. Ready to eat and feed your tabs!”

“You got it Narcise!” The fat demon replied, as he followed where the small voice came from. “Hmm, I wonder what the kid taste like. . . “

My eyes turns over Kesley, who seems to be puzzled, happy and sad at the same time. “You hear that?”  I asked.

“I’m not deaf.” She responded.

“We should follow them. They may lead us to the prisoners, and Ken might be one of them.” Red declared.

Might.” I repeated.

We silently trailed behind the fat monster, turning to the left, right, straight, wherever he goes. He come to meet other monsters, which luckily didn’t go in our way. Everything is going fine, until a bull-headed creature came from behind.

I don’t know how it happened, but when I saw him, his mouth is already covered with ice, which spread around the rest of his body. Red Bane made a quick movement of his sword which cut the minotaur in half. No one saw us, which is good. But when I look back the fat demon is out of sight.

“Where did he go?” Kesley whispered.

“I don’t know, I was panicking.” I reasoned out. “Maybe that way, I think he go that way.”

Before we turn into the direction I pointed, the fat guy shouted “I’m gonna be really bloated tonight!” that came from the opposite direction I’m pointing at. I didn’t dare look at them again, I already know what they are thinking, and it is quite a shame.
