Yumeko is having one of those moments. Those moments in life that seem like a dream, and she'll wake up right before the best part happens.

"Stop blinking. It's gonna get in your eye," Yumeko said softly but stern enough for Mary to understand the importance. Honestly, she wouldn't be surprised if Mary just burst into a fire of embarrassment considering how red her cheeks were.

Yumeko's hand was steady as she drew the sharp line of black above Mary's lash line; the former's elbow resting on the pillow beside the latter's shoulder.

Mary's eyes twitched and watered at the foreign coolness of the liquid liner tracing from her the inner corner of her eye to extend a bit past her outer in a sharp wing.

"How do you expect me to just sit still like this?" Yumeko wasn't sure if Mary was talking about the makeup or the position Yumeko had to be in to do her makeup.

Mary and Yumeko somehow got on the topic of makeup while hanging out. Yumeko had tons of unopened makeup, and Mary had never worn any before. She was all too eager change that, while Mary was equally as curious, so that's how Yumeko found herself straddling her with the contents of her makeup bag spilled onto her bed.

"Just relax your face. I'm not going to poke your eye out unless you make me," she closed the liner and admired her work.  The opposing lines were almost identical, gradually thickening from the inner corner to the outer. Not too heavy but bold enough for Mary to get the experience.

"Did you ruin my face?" Mary said, causing Yumeko to smile.

"Yes, it looks horrible, but I don't think my bad makeup skills could ruin your face. It's far too perfect," Yumeko was joking about the eyeliner, but she meant every word other than that.

"How reassuring," Mary deadpanned.

"Okay, don't freak out-"

"That's not something you can just ask me to do right now."

"You're gonna be fine, now let me finish," Yumeko grabbed the mascara and removed the plastic seal. "You need your eyes open for this one."

Mary groaned, wincing into her hands, but Yumeko stopped her wrists with urgency: "Do not smudge it!"

Mary opened her eyes, "If I go blind, I will sue you for every penny you're worth."

Yumeko released her hands, "Oh Mary, you couldn't buy a better lawyer than me," She tapped her nose, much to Mary's annoyance, and unscrewed the mascara top. "Honestly, it's not the end of the world if this gets in your eye, or even if you blink it probably won't."

"I'm trusting you."

"I appreciate it."

Yumeko lowered down for more precision, not ignoring how Mary's breath hitched beneath her. Yumeko adjusted her arm placement, unable to find the best one. She figured out quickly that it wasn't her placement, but it was Mary's: "I think you have to lay completely flat."

Sighing, Mary lifted her head as Yumeko pulled the pillow from under her. "Perfect."

Yumeko swiped the brush carefully over Mary's eyelashes. Dark black liquid coated the chestnut brown with each stroke, quivering to stay open.

Yumeko raised the brush, the pungent smell of the jar filling her nose. "Blink," and Mary immediately took the chance.

Yumeko went back to brushing. She tried to ignore how incredibly amazing Mary's irises looked. The way they stayed golden in any lighting—whether looking at her from the passenger side of her car when they drive at night or in a photo taken with flash on—left her in awe. Now that she was closer, she noticed the defined brown rim lining the outside of it. Cracked ridges were surrounding her pupil, and highlights of yellow from the bedside light created shadows of bronze.

Yumeko also adored her eye shape. They were fierce and confident. Mary was especially expressive with her eyes, and it was beautiful to watch.

"You good?" Mary lifted a brow.

Yumeko now realized that her hand stopped in the air. "Sorry, it's just, your eyes are the prettiest things I've ever seen."

They averted to the corner of the room, blinking a bit quicker: "Hah, uh, t-thanks, Yumeko."

"Honestly, they're so unique, and you use them so vividly," Yumeko felt lost in them. Like she was in a paradise desert and never wanted to be found.

Mary was quiet, probably too embarrassed to say anything.

"Look at me," and they connected with Yumeko's. She smiled. She wants this to be normal. She wants to be able to look into Mary's eyes whenever. She wants to climb on top of her and do her makeup, and it not be unusual.

Mary tilted her chin up to press a shy peck on Yumeko's lips.

And that. She wants to be able to kiss Mary, and it not be unusual.

So she went back for another, and this time they held on for longer. Yumeko pulled back after seconds disguised as minutes.

"You're lucky I always save lipstick for last," she searched for her composure while stalling with a meaningless statement.

Mary was still speechless; her mouth agape, still processing what just occurred.

"Other side, now. Don't blink," and Mary didn't even if her eyelids still shook like a leaf. Yumeko was surprised her hands were still and controlled even on her non-dominant hand. Considering her heart was beating a hundred miles a minute.

Mary's eyes followed Yumeko intently as she lifted herself. She almost looked like she was in a trance. Yumeko had never kissed anyone before, so she wouldn't know if her lips had some type of stunning spell.

"I feel like putting on your lipstick would be inappropriate," she jabbed, shifting off  and packing up the unused palettes and brushes into her bag. She set aside the ones she'd used on Mary.

"You're, like, insane. You know that, right?" Mary lifted herself and rested against the headboard.

"Maybe a little," Yumeko smiled, reaching for the handheld mirror on her bedside table. "But I didn't blind you, so that has to count for something."

Mary's eyes widened. Yumeko wondered how it felt to see herself this way. Mary already had a razor-sharp jawline and cheekbones, but the bronzer made them look like swords. She also wondered how much of the blush on her cheeks was the result of her bashful nature and not the powder.

"I look different."

"You look amazing as always."

Mary sunk into herself at the comment: "Okay, you aren't gonna blind me, but you will give me a heart attack."

"Well, your insurance for my services doesn't cover heart attacks."

"You should've thought about that before you kissed me!"

"You kissed me first!"
