"why me"

Going to such a crazy school like Hyakkaou, Mary often forgets that she's a normal teenager. Well, maybe not forget, but she doesn't give herself enough grace for being one.

So whenever Yumeko gets hit on by other people, she forgets not to feel stupid about being jealous. Mary will find a guy ogling Yumeko from across the room and try to stuff her anger down like trying to slide her foot into a tied shoe. They'll usually coware away once Mary's eyes start burning them alive, then Yumeko gives her that dumb grin, and Mary ignores it just like the nagging voice in her head.

Yumeko could easily have anyone she wanted. Everyone trips over themselves to talk to her, and listen to her sweet voice, and witness her breathtaking smile.

On top of that, there are so many people she thinks are better than herself. It's hard to believe that there are so many attractive and intelligent people in her class, and Yumeko chose Mary.

She chooses her everyday with her affectionate greetings and waterfall of compliments. Mary adores it with her whole spirit, but she just wants to know...

"Why me?" Mary asked after school one day.

Yumeko laughed. Seriously, she laughed, "You're joking, right?"

It was quickly made clear that the cloud raining over Mary's head and glooming her features was indeed not a joke, and Yumeko took her by the hand: "I'm sorry, Mary.

"The only reason I thought it was a genuine joke is because I ask myself that all the time."

Mary's eyes widened, "No way, everyone is obsessed with you."

"And everyone is obsessed with you. They don't make it as obvious, but I see the way the girls in our class look at you." Her gaze fell, "I see the way Ririka Momobami looks at you."

Before Mary could reassure her, Yumeko beat her to it, "I know nothing is going on between you. I trust you. I just can't shake the feeling.

"You're a genius, hilarious, and you always fight for what you believe in. How could someone amazing as you want someone like me?"

Mary cracked a smile, "Who? The sweetest, supportive, and smartest person I know?

"See, now you know how I feel. Our minds tell us lies all the time. Like how you believe I would rather be with anyone else when you are all I've ever wanted," Mary wanted to melt at the smile on Yumeko's face. She wanted to melt at the words echoing through her mind. She wanted to melt because she can't believe how incredible her girlfriend is.

"You're all I've ever wanted," she whispered, brightening Yumeko's smile. They shared a quick kiss, shy but sweet.

"Now that that's accounted for, let's just agree that we were being silly, because we are the ultimate couple," Yumeko sang as she went to grab her briefcase from her desk.

And though Mary groaned and rolled her eyes, confidence pumped through veins. 

They are a pretty strong team.
