3am. Fuck.

Why can't I just sleep? Can't be that hard... ha, well for me apparently it is.

A deep sigh sounded from my throat as I run my hand down my face. Some nights were like this, some nights I just couldn't fall asleep I don't have an explanation it just happens. Nikki sometimes has the same issue but tonight he's sound asleep next to me. Nikki was staying over at mine tonight as we usually alternated between the apartment he shares with Vince and Tommy and mine and usually when he's here he seems to sleep better.

My gaze falls on the bassist when I turn my head to the side and I smile at the sight, Nikki's black hair was sprawled all over the pillow and the duvet was right up to his neck, he looked adorable- I reach over softly and shift some hair from his face so I can admire him properly, though still unconscious I see his lips tug upwards slightly at the contact- leaning forward I kissed his forehead gently before carefully creeping out of the bed and walking to the door sending a final glance towards my sleeping boyfriend as I left the room.

As I made my way down the corridor to the stairs I stopped and turned staring at the door which leads to the room in my apartment which Nikki had dubbed as his 'music room' where he kept his instruments and wrote the odd song. Nikki and I didn't quite live together, we'd been together for about 4 years but both of us were content with our current living arrangements moving between band apartment and my place but Nikki had promised that we would get a house together in the near future he just wanted to make sure we were completely utterly financially secure.

Slowly and quietly I make my way back up the hall and push open the door sitting myself on the chair in the middle of the room, my eyes scanned the collection of different basses before I reached over and grabbed a black one- I set it up within seconds and began strumming the baseline to 'Rebel Rebel' by David Bowie.

I learned the bass back when I was like 12 or something but never thought I was that good so I never bothered to mention it to Nikki knowing I was nowhere as good as him but whenever I have some time alone I like to come in here to sit and play it to help clear my mind and on nights like tonight, it helps me fall asleep.

Within seconds I was completely absorbed in the music so I didn't hear the light footsteps approaching the room or the door creak open and I didn't even notice that fact that Nikki was now leaning against the wall grinning a confused but pleasantly surprised smile.

He stood and listened for the entire song not wanting to end the moment. It was only when I actually finished the song that I zoned back into reality and caught the man out of the corner of my eye, my head snapped up to meet his eyes with a almost nervous expression on my face but when I saw the smile on Nikki's lips the nerves vanished and I smiled too.

"You can play?" Nikki asked while nodding towards the guitar pushing himself off the wall and taking a step closer to me.

I looked away from him for a second letting a smirk appear on my face "Nope, I just picked it up and miraculously started playing. Isn't that weird?"

Nikki laughed and leant down wrapping his arm around my neck placing kisses onto my shoulder "When'd you learn?"

"When I was a kid, I had a lot of time to burn"
