Shut up. I know it's January. Enjoy :)
Catra liked parties. She was currently at a party. So, why wasn't she having fun?
It was a princess party.
Now, Catra had nothing against princesses... anymore. They had an issue with her. Or at least, some of them of did. Catra could tell. In the glances she got every so often throughout the night. Catching some comments from a table over or in passing. She knew when she was being talked about negatively. It definitely put a damper on her mood and, she didn't want to impact the rest of her group's night. So, she'd declined any invitations to dance with everyone else.
She'd sat at her table, nursing a glass, sipping from it every so often. She kept her mind busy by glancing around, watching her girlfriend and friends have fun on the dance floor, and occasionally conversing with Melog, who was stationed by her feet.
Melog had been adamant on Catra joining in on the party, but Catra was stubborn.
"No thanks. I don't need people staring at me more than they already are. It's just a stupid party. I'm not missing out on much."
Catra looked down at her glass. Running her thumb over the rim of the glass, she tried to ignore the joyous laughter of her friends not too far away. She forced down any jealousy she felt towards them.
Jealousy did nothing for her back then, it doesn't do anything for her now.
She refused to look up and see how happy everyone was without her. See what she was missing.
Catra sighed, her ears pressed against her head. What a sorry sight she must be. She needed somewhere quieter.
Taking her drink with her, Catra slip out to the nearest balcony. The warm air felt good that night. Catra could feel herself relax a little, knowing she was alone. However, she also felt a sense of sadness, because she was alone.
Guess she couldn't win.
Catra stroll over to the balcony and climbed on, perching there. She stood there for who knows how long, just staring out into the night, trying to think of anything to keep herself occupied.
Through the thrum of the music, she could hear a set of footsteps. The familiar scent also caught her nose.
"Hey, Catra."
Catra looked over her shoulder. Adora stood in the doorway, her face both full of concern and joy. Melog sat by the door. Adora walked up to Catra. She leaned on the railing.
"I missed you in there." She said. "Needed some fresh air?"
Catra nodded.
"Yeah. Not really my scene."
Adora snorted, getting Catra's attention. She turned her head to the woman beside her. Adora had an eyebrow raised.
"You're joking, right?" Adora asked, not buying her lie. "You love parties. You were literally excited to come to this one. Yet, you haven't left your seat all night until now."
Catra looked away, having been called out. She felt a hand take hers. Catra took a peek at Adora. Adora was looking right at her, concern on her face.
"What's wrong?" Adora asked.
Catra shrugged, moving to look away, but Adora all but grabbed her chin to lock eyes once again.
"Nope. C'mon, kitten. Talk to me, please."
Catra huffed, embarrassed now. She was glad she wore pants that night. She brought her knees up to her chest. Her cheek rested on one knee, her gaze drifting.
